I looked at the zero off gps system, but they don't make it for my year boat (2000 malibu lsv). I would like to get the best system out there, but I don't know how many I have to choose from. I have already looked at the Perfect Pass, but is there anything else. I would also like to install the system myself, any input on doing this would be helpful.

perfect pass is your only option. there was accuski but they are gone. zero off requires throttle by wire which you boat won't have.perfect pass is great and easy to install.

A guy in Texas is going to start a new cruise control sytem. I dont know what it is called, but it is gonna cost around $700. It won't have all the fancy options as PP, just the necessities. Should be a nice alternative for people who dont want to spend $1200.

Perfect pass has a patent on the paddle wheel speedo thingy. I can't imagine riding without it.

Who said that Perfect Pass has a patent on the paddle wheel? The paddle wheel thingy you talk about is made by Airmar and is not associated with PP. So how can one company have a patent on someone else’s product?

Most every spedometer in the universe uses a paddle wheel of some sort.

Newer boats have their own company's version of perfect pass. Tige has Speedset, and I believe that MC has their own as well. I don't think that helps you as an aftermarket installer, but still it is general knowledge that boatowners should know.

PP prolly has the patent on how it's used, rather than the wheel itself. Like CC did with wakeboard towers... fishing boats had towers long before, but CC decided to add a fixture to attatch a rope and bam...

Looks like the system as a whole is patented. The cable, throttle, servo, input, etc all used together, not necessarily any individual part.

What about SmartTow

That smart tow comparison chart is classic. They list 500 things nobody wants and 1 thing people do want, "Boat Speed Control", and then they compare themselves to Perfect Pass, where they show that Perfect Pass has "Boat Speed Control" and they don't, but they've got things like "DTS Shift Control" whatever that is... and "Engine Oil Pressure" not relevant...

I have heard that there is a new GPS version of SmartTow hitting the market in 2008
