JUst got the 4 Polk db speakers installed, and a Sony head unit.

Whenever I turn up the volume too high though, it will (head unit / speaker) shut off and turn back on, completely cutting off.

I am probably going to get a sub to take some of the stress off the speaker, but would it be good to also get an amp for the speakers? Would a sub that's already powered be better than a Polk sub with an amp ? Will this even solve my problem at all ?

By the way, the boat is a 1997 Ski Nautique.

Thanks!

I would reccomend turning the bass level down on the speaker currently, and then when you do turn it up don't just crank the knob all the way up, slowly boost the volume. Also, I assume with your sub you will be powering the sub with its own amplifier? It might be worth trying to find a 5 channel amp to get all your speakers really cranking as well as your sub making some decent noise.

Would the Polk db sub work with the kicker 5 channel amp?

Why do you think it is crappy wiring ? Anyway to check ?

I had the same problem. do this, hook up a battery charger and blast the systme. You could be under powered with your alternater or batteries.

I would always cut out at high volumes also, but not when the charger was connected.

My solution was upgrading the alternater.

I was told the system is requesting power that the boat cant give, so it will cut out.

I have owned 2 nautiques and worked on way more. Run a new positive and a. New negative wire. The daisey chain ground that nautique uses is not designed for any kind of load

Battery charger to the battery ? How much are those going to cost me?

Also, new wire to where from where ? Sorry, I am not so smart when it comes to this kind of stuff.

We are going to get a sub and amp anyways so could doing just that fix my problem or will I have to do the wiring thing as well?

Also, anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram of the boat ?

Thanks!

A standard battery charger is going to run $40-70. You should have on anyway.

If you hook up the charger and your system still cuts out, it's probably the wiring. If the system doesn't cut out, it most likely means that your under powered.

Your may need a 2nd-3rd battery or an alternator that will support the power your requesting

Right now i'm running my stereo 1100 rms in my boat and it's not even hooked to the alternator yet cause I haven't pulled the wire. So in tuna world this won't work?alternator has nothing to do with this. Check your glove compartment bulb in the tow rig. Maybe that's the problem. It may be pullin too much juice. Haha. Run new wire from the battery. To the stereo when you add amp go from the distribution blocks.

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for a 1997 Nautique Super Sport? It would be super helpful!

I think right now we are going to go with an Alpine Marine 5 Channel amp and then a Polk 10" sub. If there is still a problem we will get the wire replaced, does this sound like a good plan ?

This might be a better plan. Sell the Nautique and buy a BU
