I'm making my own winch and I'm almost done. I need to put the spool on but before I do I need to get the rope. What type of rope should I use. Where do I get around 750 feet line?>

I hope you're able to find something... I'm in the same situation, and I'm not having much luck. If I comme across anything, I'll let you know.

Here's a link to some rope we'll use as our last resort. It's off the winchskating.com website, which is a good source for all types of winching info.

Matthew Melivin's find (7/64"@ $.13/ft.):

Chris,
if your looking for some non-stretch spectra call jim Skelly at proline. They will sell you some obsolete rope. The colors are nasty but the price is right. call him at 360-373-9080. Or you can hit him via e-mail at Jimskelly2740@aol.com.

for my latest waste of time check out http://www.tranquilbase.com

We are developing a 1/8" non-stretch dyneema core with a glow coating. Total thickness is a little over 3mm. The coating is to preserve the integrity of the rope, and we have added luminate (glow) to the coating so you can see the rope easier in the surf. The rope will look exactly like the rope below, but it will glow. We are taking pre orders for our first 30 x 1200' reels. Pre order price is $300.00 per reel. I know, I know, pricey! .25 per foot, but you will have a winch rope developed specifically for winching, and it will last you many years. The dyneema and spectra ropes you are being used for winching now are very suscetible to UV damage and abrasion; they will not last long.
