It was the first time I've seen one in real life... I hated the look at first, but it is growing on me, and then seeing it today, in all black-WOW... who's was it?

Do you call that the DeathStar?

I've seen one on our crappy little lake a couple of times, all black as well. Best looking boat on the water hands down. I feel sorry for them, they are always being followed around and people are always coming up to them to check the boat out. They probably spend more time showing people their boat then boarding behind it.

William. I saw the same one tied up at Tower Park Saturday night. That is a beautiful boat.

Yeah, When I saw it I stopped, watched it drive by as they were pulling a boarder, then drove on.

How did the wake look?

I'm thinking about upgrading.

To me, the cockpit looks no bigger than a VLX or SAN. Yes, it has a bigger bow. But, the wake is rampy like other wide/large boats.

To me, it is a huge boat, that optimized things that are not that important to me. Big bow, big price, more gas and less wake.

Dane - as someone who's been on all these types of boats I can definitely tell you that the cockpit is TONS bigger than the VLX, SAN and X2. The amount of storage in this boat is incredible - I've been out with 6 people with gear and coolers and none of it was in the floor of the boat. The bow is big enough for 2 guys to stretch out and watch the riding. The boat also eats up chop and double-ups like they're nothing.

Do I like the wake? It's not like my 02 X2 but rather a combo of a SSV rampy wake with a X2/SAN vert wake. It def takes a lot of getting used to but is nice once you do.

I think it's a great boat but not one I could afford unless I won the lottery or got a huge raise. No doubt it raises many eyebrows though when out on the water.

The cockpit on the X-star really didn't seem much bigger than the VLX. I'm used to riding on an LSV though, so everything seems small to me.

"It's not like my 02 X2" ---> Zack, There's no such thing as an 02 X2.

ouch...
Old    norcal_99            09-22-2003, 1:35 PM Reply
Dane, Once you add on all the options that come standard on the X-Star, the price isn't that much different.

That boat has totally grown on me!!! I would really like to test drive one and ride behind one! If and when I upgrade to a new boat, I am getting a solid black one.... that black looked nice!

By the way, the storage compartments in the back of the new xstar can be confused as "changing rooms". That's how big they are:-)

Rene, I heard they list at around 79k (not that you would have to pay that). But that's way more than a loaded VLX with everything you could ask for.

I've been talking to a dealer, and have been quoted in the high 50's.

nice!!
Old    sonicr1            09-22-2003, 2:22 PM Reply
As it passed the wakeseemed pretty nice... looked like it had a nice peak, and it was decent size, amd there were only two people in it.

When I heard the price was in the mid 60's, I wrote it off... will never buy one, but if it is only a few thousand more than my X-10, I may be sold on it...

If the rear storage area are bigger than the X-10... WOW, I can lay down in mine (found out after working on the stupid ballast pumps!)

To answer the original question, It could belong to Scott Hannon of the San Jose Sharks. Cope's first Xstar was all black and it went to Scott.

So it's no one here on the board?

I have seen that Black X-Star, I would think its the one your talking about. It's all black and has Nevada registration, I noticed it because the CF # were hand painted, This guy dosen't look like a Hockey Player, He had all his teeth
and didnt look like a mullet so I dont think its the Shark's guy your talking about, I think Keven Bird Know's the guy who Owns it, he has been behing it.

Ski world in Pleasanton had one in the yard the other day. They hand paint all of their CF numbers on the boats they sell.

Rene - Ok to clarify I have an 02 XStar but that is now the X2 so I thought for sake of the argument about the new XStar that I would state mine is an X2 to avoid confusion.

The dealer here in Dallas is asking/getting just over $60K for them (trailer included). They have already sold at least 2 in the area.

The rear storage areas were easily big enough for my 143 Harris to fit with room to spare. The passenger compartment took our Landlock with no problem. If you like storage this is your boat.

The hidden cost nobody has mentioned is gas. This boat has a 60 gallon tank which means over $100 to fill up. I don't know about you guys but that's too much $$ for me.
Old     (levi)      Join Date: Feb 2001       09-23-2003, 9:52 AM Reply
Zack,

Are you saying that the new Xstar uses the gas a lot faster hence the 60 gal. tank? or do you just not like the sticker shock of paying for all that gas at once? I'd think it would be nice to only have to fill up every other time I went out as it would save time. But yes, it would make you a little weak in the knees when that pump hit 60 gallons...
Old     (migitty)      Join Date: Aug 2001       09-23-2003, 10:44 AM Reply
Holy heck that's a big tank. My '99 Suburban has a 42 gallon tank and besides the fact that you always have to put your card in twice because the darn things shut off around $50, it's not uncommon to pay $75 or more at the pump. That would surely sting to have to fill a new X. At $2.40 a gallon, you're looking at $140 plus. Yikes, there goes the college fund. Rene, there's nothing wrong with your X-Star. I wouldn't change a thing but then again, if you do, can I get a pull? I'll even give you back that life jacket of yours.

I just got back from Ski world's shop (tech something or other)... it had two inside to be worked on, and one outside still sealed up... I wanted to hook it up to my truck and bring it home.

Its sad, my buddy asked the group with the black X for a pull and they said "We are here to party, not to ride"

Our X-30 has a 60 gallon tank. We work off the philosophy of filling it everytime we leave the water. That way we only pay for what we use. No sticker shock, unless we are out for several days.

I have a tank that is 1/4 that size, so I have tank envy. There are no open stations within 8 miles of my house after 7 p.m., so if we get into the water during july and august at 4p.m. and want to ride till dark, we need to fill up gas cans.

Badzuki, you should have offered to find them a pontoon boat to party on in trade for the X for a few hours

My dad talked to the guys who had the black x star while kevin was riding behind it. Apparently they are from reno but they have friends down in the stockton area. Anyways kevin said he really liked the wake and he's pretty honest about things.

Badzuki: Thoes bastard's what has the world come to! Your buddy wants to get a pull and they wont because they want to party on there own boat that's messed up! I dont know what the Owner of the X star was thinking

Hey Mat, are you going to Bakersfield? Little Kev and I are out of here 4:00. I'll see your dad and kevin this evening. By the way, Little K and I saw the wake on the deathstar. Jeff's still looks better.
