Thread to Thread Links Continuity Maintenance

When i am looking up old threads there are often links to other threads that someone has posted, but once these threads are moved over to the archives the link is lost and no longer works because it has been moved.

it would be great to maintain the links' usability after it is archived. not sure how it would be done?

or this might have to be a voluntary extra-effort etiquette thing that people could do when making reference/link to a thread that has not yet been archived... unless a program could be written that would automatically attach information to allow someone to search out a referenced thread? (subject, date, author, etc.)
