winch setup

I've been looking around at winches. Is it possible if i buy a winch and then put a stronger engine on it and use it for wakeskating?

Most of the you buy like the grinch or the hive already have enough power to do deep water starts. I think it is better if you build you own which is what I am doing.

i mean like if i bought like a regular winch for like towing other stuff and put a stronger engine.

Generally speaking, you need a high speed winch to wakeskate and/or wakeboard. The gearing on winches that are used to move objects are gear primarily for torque, not for top end thus hindering your ability to wakeskate/board behind it. Your options are really either make a winch or buy one. http://winchskating.com will have info on whichever route you decide upon.
