Is there anything I should know about running in cold water than the basic procedures to avoid/reduce chance of hypothermia? I am an avid snow skier and usually see 10+ days by now, I have seen zero and my lake is still glass glass glass... water... I am considering a new years day run. Has anyone tried bags around the bindings to keep water out? Anything else creative to run in sub 40 degree air and Im guessing 35ish degree water...?

Bart's watersports has latex socks for $29, & latex gloves w/ insulation for $39.

Or closed toe boots seem to work too. And dishwasher gloves with a lining will work for a one time ride on the hands.

Duane,

If you need someone to ride with I'm sure Henry would love to join you! Have a dry suit? If not, I believe Gallagher has one. I want to see you guys scatter all those geese.

I found neoprene socks work good in my Transit bindings and neoprene kayaking gloves . . . get a hoody and you'll be set.

I think I'll be makin a New Years Eve run. Dock starts are nice for keeping feet out of the initial chill. It's not bad for a little while. I've been in some 42 degree water for prolly 10 or so minutes. Hot shower on the boat works good on your feet after you get out. I'm rockin the closed toe now and it rocks!

Air temp in the low 30's, Water in the very low 40's. Dry suit and lots of layers underneath, no socks or gloves.

I'm goin to the Sundown polar bear run here in the Tri-Cities, WA as soon as I find out when exactly it is. First saturday of January I believe. Air temp will probably be 30's or so, water I have no idea. I did it last year. It's defiantly cold, but more than worth it just to be riding again. One of these day i'm going to snowboard and wakeboard in the same day. Snowboarding the friday before is the closest I'll come this year!

I'd never ride in conditions like those.

We here in Seattle just don't acclimate to cold water riding very well.

I just had to.
