I am looking to find what these both mean and how I should try and set my camera for both of these. I only have a point and shoot camera but notice that a lot of my pictures come out a little blurry at times due to moving around very little when taking pictures. Any advice or tips?

My guess is you have 0 control over these options in your point and shoot. You have to step up to the dSLR to be able to 'play'. I could be wrong, but I know my old Sony Cybershot couldn't mess with them.

As far as blurriness, are you taking them in low light? Are you talking about wakeboarding pics from the boat? In my experience, there will be blurry shots, just try to get a stable position and take tons of pics, it is digital after all. Delete blurry shots at your leisure.

What kind of point & shoot camera do you have?

you need to mess around with your shutter speed and it should clear up the blurriness.

I have a sony cybershot 7.2 megapixel. It does have the settings to change, I'm just not sure where I should be changing them too. Any suggestions?

For wakeboarding, depending on light, 1000 shutter speed, at f4 with an ISO of 100. If you have an overcast light situation try bumping the ISO to 200.

See if you have a "TV" setting on your command dial. that's the general Abrv. for shutter priority. Set it on that and adjust to 1000th of a second shutter and then let the aperture float to the light conditions. If your fastest (low number) aperture setting is still underexposing at 1/1000 then as Steve suggests dial the ISO setting up until the exposure needle (or indicator) is centered. A lot of time you won't have these settings available until you go into the manual modes so give it a try.

Great thanks, I don't use it much for wakeboarding but it does get used when it's on the boat. I really just noticed how bad it was when some really good pictures from a recent backpack trick were all getting blurry and it was a huge dissapointment. Many of them had great potential.

Nick,

More often than not you should try to find a place to stabilize your camera. Whether it be by leaning against something, or using a tri-pod. See if that helps, as well as playing with shutter speeds etc.
