I've a question about the GT-40 engine in the Nautiques... I heard sometime ago that there are different types of GT-40 engine's.. Does anybody know something more about it?
This winter we are probably buying another boat and I just want to orientate a little bit.. i know the sport Nautiques are good, but are there any differences in GT-40 engine's..

Thanks

I don't know of any major differences in GT-40's except I think in mid-90's there was a year or two Nautiques used throttle-body fuel injection (maybe '94?). Not sure if that was actually the GT-40 or not.

Nautique is no longer offering the GT 40 Engine in their new boats. You will have to buya 2002 or older to get the GT40.

I believe GT40 is a particular type of high horsepower head that has been around for 10yrs or more in a variety of boat models. I have a ford based PCM engine in my '92 supra with the GT40 heads (brand named ProBoss back in those days). They along with some other tricks added approximately 45HP to the standard 240hp PCM engine back when pearl jam and nirvana were giving the hair bands the boot.

Oh and Tommy.... I just noticed you are in the netherlands.... my sister lives in Vught. Next time I am over can you hook me up with a pull so I don't have to stare at my sister the whole time?

Rob, I'm looking for a second hand boat. Not a new one... You don't wanna know what the prices are for a new Nautique in the Neterlands...

Scott, drop me an email (at tvhoek@planet.nl) if you wanna a pull. Sounds like fun! And Vught is only a 10 minute drive to our boat. You're always welcome..

Are there more differences in some GT-40 from '97 till 2002 that anybody knows???

PCM changed the engine computer in 1999. In '99 they eliminated the engine RPM "flare" that would occur on '95-'98 GT-40's on startup. The "flare" wasn't a bad thing, it was just annoying.

xxlair,
You know your stuff! I have a '98 ski nautique and am very familiar with the "Flare". When I start up the engine I wait until the rpms drop to put the boat in gear. If I don't wait the boat will tend to lurch forward, making any one standing, QUICKLY sit down.

Do you know if Nautiques came in two different GT-40 Configurations; one EFI and one Carburated?

A friend has the same boat as mine, but with the standard engine. Mine is only a little faster out of the hole and top speed. Interesing race.

The GT-40 only came in MPI. Like Scott posted above the GT-40 actually refers to the heads on the engine. These heads were targeted at the high performance muscle car crowd. I think all of the GT-40s engines were the same.

Okay,

So exept for the CPU update in 1999, every Nautique with a GT-40 is the same...
I think the CC dealer can update the CPU, so the engine is not an issue when looking for an '97-'01 Nautique...

Thanks guys!
