Being 6'2" and seeing that all of the pros seem to be no taller than 5' (except rusty) I'm sure its pretty natural for me to feel out of place in this sport. Exactly how many of you are out there that are above 6' and feel this way haha.

Yo. 6'2", 235 here. Built for football (love to watch, kind of don't enjoy playing on any serious team), but not for the sport I really love :-( Oh well, I can still have fun, even if I'm the most awkward rider on the boat. ;-)

im 6'1" but most of the people i ride with are pretty tall so for me its the norm.

When you say no taller than 5' i imagine the riders being lil circus midgets with high pitch voices.

6'3''... its just not an excuse to be bad i've come to find out... got friends who are taller and are cranking out some nasty inverts and spins... i wanted for it to be but it's just not true... bigger they are the more water they move when they fall... inverts are much more impressive when a taller guys lays them out huge too

I'm 6'7, So I am unoffically claiming to be the tallest wakeboarder in the world! Ok, probably not, but it sure looks cool when I do a backroll!

6'5" 240lbs. It took me awhile to learn to do inverts, but I don't think it had anything to do with me being fat and tall. It was more of a lack of coordination thing for me.

6'2 210 man.

I think we are starting to see a change in wakeboarders. The days of everyone being 5 feet are gone, the new wakeboarders are starting to be bigger and built more like linebackers. Look at Rusty, Rathy, Corey Bradley, Kyle Rattray, Nick Weinacker, Luis Becqueriaux, all big tall guys, excpt Rathy he's under 6 feet otherwise every one else is 6 feet or over. Nothing wrong with being big and tall.

6'1" 245#. thanks for this thread im a newb to boarding (3 months)and am having trouble getting good "pop".im getting better but seem to have hit a wall with the height/pop thing. look im also 39 so inverts might never be in my future but nice air with a grab or 3 would be nice some day. but im stuck at only lets say 2 feet off the surface.i can only clear the wake if i do a line drive say a foot off the surface so i have given up (for now) on trying to get across the wake and am trying to get more height. since some of you bigger guys seem to have the pop im looking for what advice do you have. i ride a hyper.tfd142 with cwb faction bindings. i have seen others but smaller go big on the board so i am confident its just me not doing something right. so im open to all advice and would be thankful for any you could give.(im working on the weight thing so other than that what you got 4 me)
the guy who was helping me is very very good but he has gone to texas to ski at seaworld so i lost my coach for a couple of months but i like to get different opinions/methods. maybe you have a different way of putting/saying it that might help me. thanx again

ha, 6'6 185, it can be a bit hard on the knees but hasn't stopped me from throwing any inverts. I do feel kind of out of place when everyone else is 5'9 haha.

I'm 6'6", so I'm right there with you Jeigh. Being big and wakeboarding looks weird.

I think the worst part is when you catch an edge, you have that much further to pick up speed as your falling, then you hit! Oh well, it could be worse, I could be ticked off my because of the short mans complex!
Old     (captain_vilfo)      Join Date: Apr 2007       05-19-2008, 5:31 PM Reply
i didnt really know there were this many tall wakeboarders out there, i dont feel so left out now! It didnt seem like this in orlando when I was at OWC. I was looking down to basically everyone there, I definitely felt a little out of place there.

6' 145 with a few inches left to put on the knees, but I mainly wakeskate, so fit pretty well with my body type.

6'2" 176 and could stand to gain a few pounds.. however, i am a pilot and during my last FAA medical they took a BMI test and the chart indicated i was "normal"? what is normal..?

anyway, here is a link to one of those body mass index calculators they used on us but the chart was obviously designed for gary coleman IMO..

6"4' 245 can go wake to wake but no inverts yet. hopefully one day though. I also am the largest on the boat all of the time. I feel like a giant.

6'4 230-240lbs. I am also the biggest on the boat, but it is my boat lol so i can throw the midgets off if I want.

Kevin I have the same problem, I can w2w with a good amount of speed. I am just not getting a lot of pop. Since I got the SN2001 I seem to be getting a little more pop but not alot. I dont know if it is edging issues or what. It has been hard to get anyone to ride with us that can help me out also so i am learning this on my own.

David Howell, it is funny you should say that. When I had my long hair at worlds last year, somebody actually came over to one of my buddies and asked "Hey, is that Shane Bonifay?" There was a point I walked by him and he might come up to my shoulder...and that is a big might!

I'm 6'2 185. I'm trying to get my brother in on the sport but having trouble finding Hlite bindings. He's 6'7 170 and wears a 17 shoe. Think the XXL's will fit him?

I only have one picture of me in the air, and it's a still shot from a video. It is so damn hard to get people to film for me. I'm not good, but I like to see what I'm doing wrong, and how crappy I look out on the water.

The thing about being big is that you can get the same pop that a smaller guy gets, but because he's smaller, the perspective makes it look like he's going bigger than he is. It's somewhat frustrating.

6'2" 220lbs I designed our boardshorts to fit tall guys like me, that is why we have some of the longest boardshorts in the industry. They are made to fit real people, not some skinny model kid.

6'7" 275lbs Dry. You guys are all lightweights. I am the ballast in the boat. Only inverted trick I have is a normal tantrum but it is sometthing to behold when I land it.

You just got to remember to bring your knees up as far as you can. I used to have problems grabbing because I would try to reach for the board too much. Stretching helps a ton too!
