Weight is weight, so no matter what it's in, it works. I've used gas cans filled with water and sand and they worked quite well. 200lbs isn't very much. Too see a big difference you should triple that for starters.

One fat sack is not very big, if you are not trailering your boat, grab some sand bags from lowes or the depot for like $2 each. I think they are 40lbs each, I put 20 through out my boat before i paid the cash for sacks.

Yeah, you have to have a pump if you are going to use any type of water ballast system. They range from 40 to 100 bucks depending on the gallons/hr they are capable of pumping. I have a sofa, a sack and am thinking about some side sacks and a couple of cubes to replace all of it. This way I will have a bit more flexibility of placement.

I would not recommend keeping gas in the gas cans to use as ballast.

You can use the pump to pump water in and out of the sacs. Just hook up the other end of the pump.

I went to a tire place and picked up buckets of left over lead weights used for balancing tires and then went to wall mart and got 2 gallon gas cans and filled them up. They weigh about 80 pounds each and are easy take in and out of the boat. A cheap to get a great wake.
