Looking to build a kicker this winter and need some ideas for the surface. I haven't been able to locate HDPE locally.

Also, if anyone has plans or rough dimensions I would appreciate them.

thanks

The best material to use for the surface of a kicker is FRP (fiberglass reinforced polycarbonate I believe) paneling. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot. Its the stuff they use for shower walls. Its thin and flexible and comes in 4x8 sheets. It works good because when you put the texture side up, it reduces the surface area that is actually touching the board so there is much less drag. I used it on my kicker and it worked well.

Jason, did you just put the FRP over marine plywood or something similar?

yup, we built the kicker with 2x's for the frame then used plywood for the kicker surface. After we had it all put together and floating, we used the FRP panel and used liquid nails to attach the panels to the plywood.

Are you making the kicker a straight ramp or are you putting some bend in it? If you plan on putting a bend in the ramp, you will need to use the thinnest plywood because if you go too thick, I would say anything over 3/16", it will crack when you start to curve the wood and attach it to the frame. I will look for pics of mine and post later if I can find them.
