I have a Supra 22SSV with factory ballast. My husband and I both surf on the dark side so we fill the front and starboard. Wake is ok at 9 to 10 miles, its high and clean but seems to short. I feel like Im surfing to close to the back of the swim deck, usually about 2 to 5 feet then I loose it. My husband seems to have more trouble finding the sweet spot to free ride unless he is 1' from the deck which seems to close. We share a 5' Liquid Force Venture. Any suggestions on how to get the wake longer.

I have a friend with an '04 22SSV. He raves about the goofy wake with stock ballast. He doesn't even have the Gravity Games ballast. Do you have the new hull or the old one?

Its a 2006 Im not sure when it changed hull design. It's a good wake and I freeride well but would like to be able to stay farther back. I see a lot of videos where people are 10 feet or more. Also I can't figure out why my husband can't stay off the back of the boat. I don't think the board is to short it's 5' and he only weighs 180. Another question, when I use perfect pass at that low speed it seems like the engine is constantly shifting-it's got to be murder on gas-should I just forget about PP when surfing?

Shift weight to the front to lengthen the pocket or adjust the wakeplate to play with the shape.

I'm going to get a bigger sac for the front and invite some of my fat friends to sit in the back.

use the RPM mode in PP when surfing.

Theresa, I believe the bottom of the older SSV22 hull has more V than your hull. A little V in your hull makes listing the boat to either side easier and therefore producing a better surfing wake.

I suspect that you'll need much more weight than the older hull needed for a good surfing wake. The hull info is all second hand on my part.

As stated above, placing weight upfront or setting a hydraulic trim tab down should lengthen the pocket. Placing weight further outboard should improve the shape of the wake and clean the face.

www.pop-products.com

Seriously it makes a firm and more defined, tuned wake than any bag can do. I use 800lbs of pop and another 2500 lbs of ballast...

Good Luck!

Thanks Ed we will probably get new sacs over the winter. Now we only have 650 in front and 400 each in the locker. It's not a bad wake really, good for the kids wakeboarding, but I love surfing (wakeboarding hurts my face) and I want an awesome wake. Reading some of the advise you guys gave other new surfers I think my husband may just need to loosen up and improve his stance on the board. He is a hard core slalom skier so he may just be a little stiff on the surf board.

Jason- that looks like a good product for dead weight, it could replace my fat friends. A couple 100 lbs make a big difference.

Teresa Jared-I know it's a different boat, but I was experiencing the exact same problems with my '05 21v, (having 2 b right on the deck, a high wake but very short pocket). I had the stock bags 250# in each rear locker, and 600# in front locker. We finally added more weight in all areas (rear and front lockers) but more importantly, put as much weight as possible in the front to bring the nose down and that helped a TON. A buddy of mine and my dealer advised me that a good rule of thumb (at least on the 21v's) is to distribute the weight in a way that your rub rail is as even as possible above the water from the back all the way to the front. Previously, the rub rail up front was much higher out of the water than the rear, once we added the massive amount of weight to the front (on the side we were riding on) the short pocket lengthened out and was much more enjoyable to ride, didn't lose much height either. we ride with the wakeplate about 1/4 up and about 10.7-11.2 mph. Don't know if you have tried this or not, but another thing to try is slightly turning the boat in a half-moon shape into the side that you are riding, we have found that that helps clean the pocket up a bit. Hope that helps.
