Went in at Antlers. Heavy debris near the marina, and thought it was going to be bad all over, but it wasn't (all over). We only went down as far as Gooseneck. There were many clear areas with scattered "debris fields". There is some big stuff floating out there. Didn't have a thermometer, but water temp was warmer than I expected. I'd call it "spring suit" temp. Weather was a bit cloudy in the mornings but cleared by late morning. Saw very few riders out.

The pic with the boat was just outside of Antlers Saturday about 9am.

The other was in the gooseneck area Sunday afternoon around 1pm.Upload

Pictures like that are addictive....the first ones are free.

I might have another pic or two tomorrow (off another camera), but they won't show much more. I know I shouldn't post this, but this trip was a fishing trip with seven young boys, and.....no boarding boat. I'm still trying to get the interior put together in mine and another guy who was supposed to bring a boat bailed. I carried boards there and back and didn't get them wet (except for my tears). My two boys kept looking at the water and back at me with the WTF look.

We'll be back in a couple weeks. You're party sounds like good times....have fun and take pics so you'll "remember" what happened.
Can't go wrong with a party on Shasta......

Those are nice pics...where are some good places to find the best water at Shasta? Have never been there and thinking it might be nice to get up there next year! thanks

I was out there on Sat afternoon and it was NICE!!!! The water temp seems like it came up 10 deg since last weekend, not even cold getting in. I was able to board for an hour neer the pit arm with no chop and the debris was pretty light. The water came up a bunch as well, looks like at least a couple feet since last weekend.

We'll be out this weekend around the pit arm and then on a house boat from Sun-Wed for mothers day.

If you've never been, you simply have to go. As for best water places, just watch this board light up. There are so many nice areas and everybody has their opinion on the "best". I'm partial to the McCloud arm. Last weekend was only the second time I've been around Antlers. First time, it was so blown and bad. Last weekend, well, the pictures tell that story.

you just have to go....

Steve,

Some of the best memories of my life are fishing w. my G-Pa, no regrets bout picking up a pole & sharing some good times with the boys. Boat would have been a bonus but glad to see you had a good time.

Tracy, I am a newbie @ Shasta, we make a couple trips a year. Honestly, each arm of the lake has some good spots & places of intrest. Bridge Bay is the closest Marina coming up 5 north but Shasta is a must. You can pick up a houseboat nicely priced before Mem Day or better yet after Labor Day when the water is still supa warm + the long summa nights...

Definitely no regrets. We had an awesome time. Anytime I can spend with my kids is great......but when you're at Shasta if you can spend a bit of that time with them on an early morning or evening boarding session, well, that would be good too.

Shasta sounds cool--aside from best Marina's to start at (coming from So Cal), what're thoughts on Houseboat vs. Lodge-type set-up vs. Camping?

I don't think there is anything better than houseboating. You can find a cove and be as loud or quiet as you want, plus the convenience of having your boat available to step right on and go. Last weekend was my first stay in a lodge set up. Nice, but not as good as a houseboat. I have not camped at Shasta, but I know there are campgrounds ranging from full hookups in a relatively populated area to "very rustic", and everywhere in between.

The size of your checkbook will help decide what it best for you. To keep costs in check, we've "camped" on patio boats. It's the poor man's houseboat. If the patio boat has a bathroom they can stayout overnight. Just plan all the meals around a bbq.

Mr. Smith, are you Racer #5 Mike I met several years back in that cove across from Silverthorn? Shoot me an email but the skinny is that I'm headed to Kimmy's to do an electrical upgrade and get my kids some early season lake time. I don't even know if I'm going to bring my boat. It's still in the shop gettting a new tower.

I already have my houseboat reserved for July 14th. 14 of us are going up there from Sacramento. I can't wait. I am renting from Shasta Marina which is the Sacramento arm. Does anyone have any advice as to where to set up for the weekend. I dont want to spend 8 hours looking for a good spot to park the houseboat. Thanks.

I will be out again on Thursday and will let ya know what the water temp is. It has been in the eighty's all week so the water should be in the low 70's.

The water is still rising. We staked a patio boat Saturday evening and the next morning the stakes were in the water. It was a fairly flat area so I'm guessing the rise was well under a foot.

Hey Steve - which lodge did you stay at? was it decent? I have done the houseboat once at Powell and it was kind of crazy, esp. with only 1 boat/4 people but the lodges seem to work well no matter how many people. Thanks!

I will be up there the weekend of the 19th. I will take pics and give you an update on the water. I was there about 2 weeks ago and the water was a little chilly but not bad. I am sure it has warmed up quite a bit since then. We will give you a call Aaron and give you an update after Matt, S and the kids and I get back.

Shasat will definatley be full by MD. There was snow on a mountain near by and by the end of the 2nd day all the snow was gone. Water is rising fast, overnight it raised 3 feet and the dock to get to shore was under water.

Mike, I sent an email to the Alliance Cooling address noted in your profile. Tell me you didn't reserve one of those new Titans from Jones Valley (see attached pictures)for your July trip? If so, I'm guessing my invite got lost in the mail. Kidding. Check your email. Hope all is well.
