Life Jacket Cleaning

Pulled out a jacket that has lived in the bottom of the ski locker all season. The thing obviously smells horrid and probably has a decent amount of algae through the neoprene. How do you all clean your jackets? My first attempt was to use just soap and water but that didnt mask the smell. Would something like Mean-Green or algaecide ruin the jacket's composition?

I throw my oneill pro comp neoprene in my LG frontload washer at home about once a month. I use a level 1 cap of laundry detergent and let it air dry. Works for me. If you have let it get super nasty, the smell may never come out. Try washing it a few times and maybe some febreeze as well?

hang it out to dry in the shade after you wash it, let all the crap dry up and die, repeat.

I know when my wetsuits get funky I just wear it again and it usually gets a good surf washing. 1x a year I wash it with a real mild detergent and hang it up till next season, this is only a 3mm wetsuit tho.

Freeze it, that will kill the bacteria that causes the smell. Same goes for shoes, or nasty old flip-flops

I have put jackets in our pool before when they were put away wet and got really smelly. The chlorination in the pool took care of the smell and wasn't strong enough to do any damage. Rinsed them well with fresh water afterwards.
