We have a 2003 Malibu wakesetter VLX with perfect pass. It has worked great for us but is starting to become unreliable.
It seemed that before, maybe 1-2 times a year, when we were really loaded down it wouldnt hold right by fluctuating 3-4 mph in each direction. Now it seems to do it almost every time we use it even with stock ballast, no wedge and just a few people in the boat. It still holds great for surfing at 10 mph, but not for wake boarding at 21mph.

Is there something i need to do to maintain it. Does it need replacing?

Check the paddle wheel for any wear?

In addition check the spring that pulls the throttle back when it needs to slow down. Mine needed to be greased every summer or else it was really unreliable. Without proper tension the system sucks.

Also, reset the NN and KB or whatever they are called settings.
