I'm just now taking the time to learn how to use Adobe Premier; I used to use Windows movie maker, but I have a few questions for you guys. The footage I was messing with was '.mov' format, from a digital camera. I was able to crop the clips and put them in slow motion, but when I try to add effects and transitions they don't take effect. It this because I'm not using footage from a DV camcorder? I'm not familiar with the program and don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if my source footage is just not capable of being modified.

Thanks guys, I appreciate any replies.

.mov? Are you sure? it should be an .avi if you are on a PC. Which "effect" or "transition" are you trying to apply?

btw - I have Antony Bolante's book "Premiere Pro for Windows" that I will be more that happy to send (if you pay for the shipping.) It's been collecting dust since I upgraded to Premiere Pro 2.0 and it would be great to see someone put it to good use.

A .mov file is 15 fps or so so you can only do the basics .You are right about the DV footage You can add effects or play with it I upgraded to 2.0 and can say it's a great editing tool to work with . Kung Fu it's good to see another pc editor . JL MOB GROUP PRODUCTIONS

.mov files are only 15 fps if they're compressed that way.

edit:I totally missed the "from a digital camera" part making my post pointless.

Its a Panasonic still shot camera, but it takes Quicktime movies in .mov format that are 30 fps. It surprises me, though, because when I put them on the computer the quality of the video is comporable if not better than my sisters JVC DV camcorder through a firewire...

Thanks for the help guys, I solved my own problem. I wasn't executing the transition action properly; I didn't preview the clip and format the transition into the clips, so it wouldn't show up when I played it. Just takes some playing around with to get this stuff...Thanks again.
