My wife and I just bought a 2007 Sanger V215 and then went to the Sacramento Boat Show and bought a CWB Sol 135 board with CWB Torg bindings. Here's the thing we are 50 years old. Are we crazy or can we do this? We both love the water and have skied but have never wakeboarded. What would be the best speed to start at? Any help would be appreciated. If it matters we use Lake Camanche in Ca.

i dont know much about your boat however try to ride at about 20-21 mph and you dont need to add a ton on weight to the boat. ride at about 60-65 feet out. purchase "the book" wakeboarding instructional videos. buy the whole series. this will get you started and teach you everything you need to start. in fact i would buy "the book" and watch disc one and two before even hitting the water. you guys will be fine. welcome to wakeboarding!!

When you get better you may want to speed up 2-4 mph.

Bill,
IMO your not crazy. I'm in my forties and have rode with several people older than me all the way up to 63 years old.

Sanger's are great boats and I'm sure you will love it.

I suggest starting out with no ballast and going slow (18-19 mph) until you learn how to edge. Consider buying the instructional DVD call The Book. http://wakeworld.com/VideoGuide/

Bill,
Welcome to wakeboarding. I am 49 and have been wakeboarding for six years. You are never too old to start. I would agree with Alan, buy "The Book" and watch it several times before you ride. I started at 60' out and now ride at 70' at 20 mph. Congratulation on your purchase of a Sanger. The Sanger V215 is a great boat. I have a Sanger V210 and it has been the best family investment I have ever made.}}

Hi Bill! Im 25. I think if you want it and feel the force - you must do it. Your not crazy, my dad is 56 and we ride mountain ski together. Wakeboarding - its incredible fun! Go big Bill!

Bill, ditto all of the above - I've got few more years on me than you and started boarding from scratch a year or so ago and love every minute I get out on the water.

If you can, take a couple of lessons with a pro before you start riding behind your own boat, it will make eveything so much easier.

The Book is a great series of instructional DVDs but you don't need the whole thing at the start. Disks one and two will take you a long way. You can check it out here http://www.thebookdvd.com/

There are some other DVDs which helped us when we were starting out, we liked Waketrix and especially Destruction Manual.

Finally, there are a couple of excellent short videos about the basics on the CWB site here http://www.cwbwakeboards.com/2007/videos.php - scroll down to Board Set up and Basic Start. The last one is gold.

I've got "Waketrix" as well. It helped me alot when I first started almost two years ago.

As far as the age, my father's 60 and would probably still ski circles around me.

Don't see why that'd be too old to wakeboard.

Thanks guys, sounds like we can do this.

Another question for you, I looked up the specs on the board we bought and it says up to 180 lbs. Is this critical? I weigh 200.

Here are some pics of our boat.Upload

You could ride that board but I wouldn't recomend it. Depending on who you bought the board from, you should be able to trade it in on something a little bigger.

I'm 160ish and a 135 is the smallest I've ridden on. Something in the low 140's would be better, especially for starting out b/c it gives you more surface area to work with, but may be too much board for your wife to handle. Good luck and welcome to one of the greatest experiences life can offer.

Thanks, Wakeman.

I just found a CWB Faze 141 with CWB Seven Bindings for $299.99. Is that a good setup?

Starting out that would be okay. You may be able to find a better deal online, but I'd recommend going to the local shop or shop you bought the other board from and working some deals with them. They'll be your new best friend.

Just ordered "The Boat". Should get it in a few days. It should work out pretty good. We still have another 12 hours to go for our break in on the boat. Then we can give it a try. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement.

Bill the CWB Faze 141 package deal is a perfect board to start on and yes at 200lbs you need to be on a 141cm a 135cm is to small.
I also recommend buying the Book dvd
