I am starting the search for my new boat. Seems the Tige 24v is going to be right about what I am looking for. We primarily surf, but do like to wakeboard too, so I would like the surf wave to be pretty close to awesome on both sides, and the wakeboard wave to be nice(not awesome). We usually have 8+ peeps going with 4-6 adults and 4+ kids w/ gear when we go out. If their are other boats that would fit into this criteria I would like input on them.

I do have some questions on the tige's though, I am looking at the '05,'06,'07 years( these seem to be in my price range 40k max). Are there any differences in these years? What is the difference between the 24v and the 24ve? Is the 340hp enough for these big boats?

Thanks in advance!

06 was the last year of the "V" hull and also the 1st year of the "Ve". Booth are about the same LOA. The running surface of the two hulls is very similar, but a little more rocker was added to the Ve. No real changes between an 05 and 06 V and no huge difference between the 06 Ve and 07 Ve. Different vinyl, I think the "Z" tower was an option, but the boat was pretty much the same.

The major difference between the V and Ve was that the Ve has a longer windshield frame transom storage/seating and no longer the sloping transom.

The 340 MP is plenty of engine, but once surf ballast is added, you will exceed the capabilities of the factory 537 prop if thats by chance still on it.

Those hulls can produce a clean wave on either side.

Looks like the hull questions have been answered pretty well, and the motor should be plenty as long as you're not running with a crazy amount of weight and a ton of people/gear or running at high altitude. My RZ4 is running the 343 PCM with factory prop and has no problem getting out of the hole with 1500 lbs of ballast and 10+ adults on board. I've had 16 on the boat before and I started to notice it wasn't as quick then, but nothing a prop swap wouldn't fix. If you're worried about the power, a new prop will erase any issue you may have.

What setup ballast wise is good for these boats?

Todd,

Duff Mahoney from the CDA area is running an older 24V I believe. He am sure he will have some great insights on the boat and how to set it up for surfing.

Most of the new Tige's are using 500 lbs [250 on each side] up front on those size boats. The rear sub-floor has 250 lbs on each side and most surfers prefer 1000 lb bags in each locker for surfing. The popular set-up is 100% FULL on surf side rear . The front is full on both sides and the rear off side is 50% full. What you are looking for is about a 7 degree list. Speed range is 10.5 to 11.5 mph and Taps between 2.5 to 4.5. Good Luck.

Here is one of duffys threads with a few pics of his wave. It's a beautiful wave and I know he has done a ton of research on that boat. Hopefully he will chime in. My brother had a 22v and my cousin has a 22ve. I don't know that either wave is superior but I do know the interior changes that tigemike mentioned are nice

24v is a sweet sweet surf boat. Big, roomy, tons of freeboard. Most don't come with ballast so it would have to be installed, but that isn't that big of an issue. I run custom rear ballast bags- 1800 # and dual 450's in the bow. The boat handles that much weight without an issue. My buddy has a 24ve and the wave is pretty similar. Only issue is the rear lockers are smaller so you can't get as much water ballast in it.

Not 100% sure for all years but if it doesn't have Tige's version of cruise control and it's the fuel injected MP 340 you can't install perfect pass on it. Just want to give you a heads up on something to look into.

I had a carb'd 06 and could use standard perfect pass, but was told that there was no compatability with the 06 fuel injected Marine Power.

You'll be stuck with speed set, or Tige cruise, or whatever the name is. Not sure how well they perform.....maybe others can chime in and confirm/deny

I have heard the same thing. Perfect Pass is not compatible with the MP340 engine.

Can anyone confirm or deny the speed control and if there is issues with it?

Any other boats that perform like the tige that would be in my price range?

It was the '06 MP 340 with the first gen Tige Speed Set with no display. All it had was a light that showed it was engaged. Perfect Pass will confirm this if you call them. If I remember correctly, it was just that specific set up.

03-05 Tige's are perfect pass. 06 went to speed set, which isn't as nice.

Actually, in 06, the Ve had the DBW MP 340 and an 06 V could have still had the cable driven throttle with PP

Todd;
I have an '05 24V that I wouldnt trade for anything out there. I have an Enzo sac in both the port and starboard side lockers. As Duffy said earlier, space isnt an issue with these monsters. We usually ride with only 3-4 people, and still get a nice wave. Dont hessitate. You wont be dissapointed.

Ditto what was said above about speed set. It is a unique problem to 2006 models with the MP engine and the Tige factory Speed set. Threre are a few 2006 models out there with PCM engines, which are not a problem.

I owned a 2005 24V. Still miss it on some days. It was a great boat and had plenty of power with the 340HP engine. That is why there are very few of them in existence with any sort of upgraded motor.

Any thoughts on the 06-08 22ve's? Are the similar to the 24's as far as being able to get a good wake out of them?
Old     (boardman74)      Join Date: Jul 2012       03-04-2014, 8:03 AM Reply
People say the suf wave on these boats is good when weighted. You hear way more about the 22V and VE being surf machines then the 24, far more common boat. Just not that many of the 24's out there. In 3 years now my dealer yes yet to order or sell a RZ4(current 24 footer).

You can't go wrong with the 24ve. We have a 2006 and it can put out a huge surf wake both sides and the wakeboarding wake is great as well. The Tige speed set is the major drawback, plain and simple it sucks. Sometimes it is hard to engage at surfing speed, especially when heavily weighted. You can't see the light in bright sun so you have to cup your hand around it to make sure it is solid which means it is set. I wouldn't call it a deal breaker but Tige def screwed that one up.

There is a 22ve that popped up in my area. I am just wondering if I should get that or hold out for a 24. Its hard, most 24's that I am finding will need to be shipped so that's extra cost to me also....decisions, decisions. Just trying to figure out the difference between the 2 boats....
Old     (cwb4me)      Join Date: Apr 2010       03-06-2014, 5:44 AM Reply
I had a 2007 22VE and it makes a nice wave with the large Enzo sac's in the rear lockers. The wave will just be a little shorter and not as tall as the 24 VE. When both boats are loaded and listed properly the 24 VE is just a little better wave, but it's easier to get a surf able wave on the 22VE and it will require less weight.

May need to expand the search a little.....how do the supra 24v's compare to the tige's 24 and also the 22ssv/sunsport vs the tige 22v/ve, same years as listed above 05-08. Thanks in advance.

So I think I am leaning toward a 04 24v I found. Are these the same hulls as the 05-08 yrs?
