Anywhere from 70' to 90', depending on the boat. My all time favorite? A slammed X-Star, 25.5 to 26mph, 87'.

Why the hell would I use a rope?

OK, I use a rope but then I pitch it once I'm up.

It really all depends on YOU and what you're wanting to do that particular set. We'll ride at 24 or so at 80ft a good bit, or like today, if we're out there to learn something new or work on certain spins or a buddy of mine was tryin to get his crow mobe back and consistent, we pull the line in to about 65 and go about 19.5 and its money. You don't get as much hang time as you do on a longer line, but it makes the falls less painful and honestly for some reason our wake is a whole lot of fun going that slow and short.

The longer the rope the faster you'll need to go. Some boats with smaller wakes are very difficult to ride longer lines because the wakes start settling down. I'd probably say that most V-drives with at least factory ballast will afford you a longer line.
