My 15 year old son got measured on aug 19 and had his brace wed the 22 in the morning to go to nationals. I dont know how much it helped, with out him getting a chance to ride before that. He said he still had alot of pain, injury was Aug.12 goes today about surgery. But the people at CTI are great got it to us very fast. (Message edited by wakeparent on September 01, 2005)

I got my first one in in less than a week at the office after getting fitted for it, and then when I needed a second one ordered it came directly to my house in 3 days.

My son got his quick, but gets his ACL replaced and his minicus repaired on the 21st so he is done for awhile. but the brace should come in handy in about six months.

My doctor did. I have a completely torn ACL and the doc prescribed the brace.

"your guys docs actually recommend braces?" Is that surprising?

yeah it is. Alot of the docs I have spoken too, (true sports med guys) will not write the recommendation for a brace.

That's because the Physical therapist and Bracing clinics already know what the Orthopod prefers. I know that from having worked with Orthopods and Physical therapists. It's one of those unwritten rules.

So it's surprising for you. Ok. "Alot of the docs I have spoken too, (true sports med guys) will not write the recommendation for a brace." Why?

The theory at least what I can ascertain from my lay position is that a brace is simply that, and they believe in rehabilation and total strength. They would not release my fiancee for total sports until she was above her pre-surgery strength. Same with my buddy who tore his. When the conversation of a brace came up, the doc flat out refused, and said we don't do that here, you will need to go somewhere else. He explained, it pretty much like I did above. I do like the attitude of strength, rehab, let it heal, then ride vs some other ortho's who have you back out doing everything in 4-6 months, just MHO, your mileage may vary.

I was leaving for a surf trip 3 days after I was measured, and innovation sports finished the brace and overnighted it to me at no extra cost....

Since knee injuries and rehabilitaion, as well as post op knee stability, vary greatly, there are indeed many docs who recommend braces. There are many people who finish rehab and get back to pre-injury strength levels that still need a brace due to the instability of the knee. Yes, mileages do vary, just like knee injuries.
