Need a new bag

Well after getting my 70-200 F4 I discovered that it won't work with my Lowepro 200 slingshot. This sucks because I love that bag. I'm looking at the Canon deluxe photo backpack 200EG as a replacement, Anyone have this bag and what are your thoughts? It is getting a 4.5 star review (900 reviews) on Amazon. I also have a almost new slingshot 200 for sale

I have the Canon 200EG but just bought a Lowepro Dryzone 200 for the boat. There is nothing wrong with the Canon 200EG but I don't think it is quite the quality of some of the Lowepros I have seen. I would trade you for the Lowepro 200 but the shipping and stuff would probably be a pain. Check ebay. I bought my new bag for like $160 and the cheapest I found it for in town was around $260.

Rob does the 200 eg fit all your gear? I think you have a 70-200 2.8, do you have plenty of room? I need it to hold a 40-D, 70-200 f4-L (attatched), 28-135, 50mm prime, speed light, charger, cleaning gear, etc. Workable?

Well, when I carried my XSi with my 100-400L there wasn't much room. The 70-300IS worked fine with the bag and I think it is similar in size to the 70-200 f4. I haven't carried my 50D yet but it would be tight I think. Give me a couple days and I'll post a pic of the bag with all the gear I can fit in it (if that will help). It is kind of flimsy so if you want something comfortable for long hikes I'd lean more toward something else. The 200EG is more like a school backpack versus something for serious hiking and stuff. I think it is more geared towards the XT, XTi, XS, XSi cameras versus the 40D or 5D.

Here's what I'm using - carries my 1D3, 400, 70-200, 24-105, 1.4X & 2X extenders and I could probably squeeze a couple of small primes in as well if needed.

The canon bag will hold a good amount of gear, my problem is it really isnt comfortable when loaded down(as with most "photo" backpacks)I'm going with the dakine sequence

I have a 6 for light carry. D700 + 24-70 2.8, SB600, 50mm 1.8, Vertical grip not attached.

I am ordering an 8 MDH for the big bag. D700 Grip attached, F100 Grip attached, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 attached, 50 1.8, SB-600, with room to spare.

I have some backpacks(Dakine, Lowepro) that are nice for hiking or taking out in the boat, but for everything else, slings are where its at. And Crumplers don't look like camera bags at all.

Randy if you liked the slingshot 200 I would suggest the slingshot 300. I was in the same situation you are in a few months ago after purchasing a 70-200 for my 40d and chose the slingshot 300. I still have the 200 but haven't used it as I always have the 70-200 mounted. With the 70-200 mounted up there is still plenty of room for your 28-138, your 50mm and all accessories.

David, I really like my slingshot, super fast to access your gear. I looked at the 300, (on-line) but it looked kind if big but I will check it out again in the store. Thanks for all the input guys.

Randy....my boss has the Canon 200eg and the construction quality isn't up to par with the higher end backpacks but it will certainly hold all your gear and then some....he has also mentioned that it isn't super comfy all loaded up.

I have the Micro-Trecker . It holds a camera body w/ 28-135IS attached,700-200 F4L, 18-55IS, 580 ex, and a small collapsible tripod inside that i use for my flash when off camera. It is really comfortable and the storage pocket up front is large enough to hold all of my personal extras. My only complaint is that it is a bit on the small side only for the fact that when wearing it feels weird on my back in the way it sits, but when i carry my tripod around it feels fine
