Here is the stated criteria to be invited:
1. 2008 Defending Masters Wakeboard Champion. (Rusty)
2. Top 6 finalists of the 2008 King of Wake Wakeboarding World Cup Series. (Soven, Rusty, Rathy, JD,Andrew, Watson)
3. Top four riders from WWA World Series. (Phil, JD, Andrew, Trevor)
4. 2008 WWA National Wakeboard Champion. (Phil)
5. 2008 WWA World Wakeboard Champion. (Phil)
6. Top 6 Men, 4 Women on the 2008 Pro Wakeboard Tour Ranking Lists. (Phil, JD Rusty,Adam E, Watson, Andrew)
7. 2009 Wake Games winner from Pro Women and Pro Men. (Rusty)

Here is how they qualified:
Errington, Adam (USA) 6
Murray, Shaun (USA)
Watson, Shawn (USA) 2,6
Adkison, Andrew (USA) 2,3,6
Soven, Phillip (USA) 2,3,4,5,6
Harf, Danny (USA)
Hansen, Trevor (USA) 3
Aaron Rathy 2,
JD Webb 2,3,6
Rusty Malinoski 1,2,3,6,7
Jimmy Lariche

So how did Murray, Harf and Lariche get an invite? They did not meet the criteria. Does Nautique get to invite their riders? Maybe it is rare that only 6 riders qualify from all those options and they needed more riders
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       05-19-2009, 11:54 AM Reply
because they are murray, harf, and Lariche!

Wouldn't they open it up to others if the same riders were repeated across criteria? According to your listing of the 7 different ways to qualify, up to 20 men could qualify but the criteria only fit 8. Maybe they wanted a larger pool of riders??

ya but whats the odds they are all nautique team riders. They shred sure but to only invite them is a bit of..... well you decide.
Old     (raftisland)      Join Date: Aug 2006       05-19-2009, 1:22 PM Reply
because they are three of the best riders out there.

Duh...'cause LaRiche stomped the 900 off the double-up for the win at Spring Ride!

It seems like that could be part of the sponsorship deal: Nautique gives x amount of support to sponsor the event, in return they get x amount of exposure, including a number of their riders in the event.

I'm guessing but I believe LaRiche was invited because he could have been in Juniors but wanted to ride Pro Division this year. He was certainly qualified for Juniors.

because it is like the masters.... havent harf and murry won before and lariche won the jr masters???

I have no dog in thatis but I was just curious. i am glad they invited them. Especially Harf and Murray. 6 is too few riders.

Those are the riders when it comes to comps. Can you think of anyone else who has made it to finals the last couple of years?. I know Harf and Murray haven't been lately but still pretty interesting.

EXACTLY - THERE NAUTIQUE RIDERS SO SINCE NAUTIQUE IS SPONSORING THE EVENT, THE MAJORITY OF THEIR RIDERS WITH BE THERE, AND YES COMPETING. REGUARDLESS OF QUALIFICATIONS

Okay, so let me get this straight...what you're saying is that since Nautique is sponsoring the event, their riders will be there and competing?

That's how I'm reading it, but I just wanted to clarify. Also, could you speak up? I'm having trouble hearing you.
Old     (hoosairboy)      Join Date: Aug 2005       05-20-2009, 8:37 AM Reply
It doesn't always work that way about sponsors. Worlds for instance. No matter who the sponsors are you have to qualify. Same with PWT. That why I thought it was interesting. I always thought you had to qualify for Masters. This is an invitational so I guess they can add whoever they want. Who cares. The spectators win by getting a chance to see Murray and Harf at the event. There are no points for PWT, KOW or World Series.

+1 for Andy. Regardless of the Nautique deal. They are Murray, Harf and Lariche. IMO
Old     (pureblue)      Join Date: Jun 2002       05-20-2009, 10:44 AM Reply
^^^ agree, I look at it more as Murry, Harf, and Lariche deserve to be there, it just happens that they are sponsored by nautique. However, that is just a secondary fact.

I think we need a senate investigation into this immediately.

Come on guys, this is wakeboarding we're talking about.

Look Josh, I don't know what you're trying to say, but...wakeboarding is serious business. The internet is serious business.

Waeboarding on the internet...well, let's just say that there's no room for fun and games.
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       05-20-2009, 11:54 AM Reply
there is nothing THIS serious about wakeboarding. We all do it cause its pure fun!

I just think it's crazy Rusty and Soven have 5 qualifications each just themselves! That's some consistency

When is the last time someone won a major tournament besides Rusty or Phil. Majors being either a PWT, KOW or World Series event. I bet 3 years.

Roger
Dean Smith won the first stop of the World Series in the Philippines two months ago; he beat Phil in the finals although Rusty wasn't there.

I don't think that's what Roger's asking:
"When is the last time someone won a major tournament besides Rusty or Phil. Majors being either a PWT, KOW or World Series event"
I pretty sure he means single event. To me "tournament" usually implies single event. If not, than I'm wrong, who cares.

hey sorry I didnt read rogers post closely enough, you are right.
Phil and rusty are both machines and will be hard to beat.

Well Masters is stand a lone event. PWT, nationals, worlds, ect. have nothing to do with this event except qualifying. They can invite whoever they want to... really. Jimmy is riding because he won Jr. Masters last year, and if I'm not mistaken the winners of the previous year is invited to ride, juniors or not.

Mur-dog and dblock are bad ass riders that just so happen to ride for the sponsor of the contest. They should be invited.

I'm not really sure why this has turned into a large post. I thought people wanted to see jimmy, danny, and shawn ride.

now shawn is invited?

speaking of Dean, I'm disappointed hes not invited, he's riding sick this season. Murray just automatically qualifies for anything because, well hes Murray, nuff said!

First, whenever something is really important like Master's invites, I send it in triplicate.

Adam- Thanks, I forgot about Dean. It just seems like it has been the Rusty and Phil show for at least the last 2 seasons. I think an invitational's sponsors should have the right to invite their riders. They are writing the check. Golf does it. It is a different story if their are tour points on the line.
