i have a 2001 SAN. just recently the PP keeps beeping when i initially crank the boat. it looks to me like its constantly resetting itself. it beeps and before it can boot up, its shuts down adn beeps again. anyone else ever have this problem?? if so, howd you fix it?

Lack of voltage. Nautiques have a design flaw, in that they do not have a large enough power feed wire. Wire in a relay to the accessories directly off the battery and problem is solved.

why would it just start doing this all of the sudden? also, is it hard to to do this? i know very little about running electrical wires. thanks!!!

Run your blower and shut it off before you crank the boat. The extra load of the blower motor or bilge running will make the PP beep.

Now the real problem is probably a low battery. Make sure your alternator is actually charging 12+ volts. You might want to flag someone down that knows how to use a voltmeter.

Question, does it do this only at start up and then is fine the rest of the time the boat is running, even when crossing back over rollers, etc.?

it beeps if the ignition is on. it keeps resetting itself. i talked to PP on the phone and we ran through some tests. they think its a bad relay in the brain. so i took it out and mailed it to them.
this is the 2nd problem ive had w/ this PP and their tech support is awesome. they are so helpful that im not even really pissed about not having PP for a week or so.

I had a similar problem with my PP all summer. I sent it back to PP and all checked out okay. This past weekend I finally figured out what the problem was..... it was the main power wire from the boat to the ignition, not the PP wire to the ignition.

I had always checked the PP wires for a loose connection and not the boat's power wires. I would have thought that if the problem was a loose wire on the boat side other instruments would be cycling on and off as well. I was wrong, because I discovered that the power wire going from the boat's power to the ignition was loose. When I jiggled it the PP would turn off and on, even though the power wire from PP to the ignition was a solid connection. I tightened up the other wire and now all is fine.

Check the voltage on whatever wire is supplying power to PP at the dash. If it's below about 12V, you have a problem with incoming power. If the voltage is good, the problem is in the PP module or display.

My guess is a wiring issue in the boat, especially considering what Peter said. It could start doing it suddenly due to just enough corrosion developing to put the voltage below the PP's threshold. My display will beep and restart if I run something with high amp draw without the motor running. I'd be looking at running another fat supply wire and relay for the accys.

I had the same thing happen in July. Corrosion on the pos battery terminal (right after paying for a 100 hr. service ) Cleaned it up on the lake and problem solved.
