The real question is more speed. Before you tweek the engine, figure out if it will make a difference in speed. On most direct drives, even 20-30 hp adds 2-3 mph.

Change your prop. If you are looking for a better hole shot, decrease the pitch of your prop.

If you are looking for higher top speed (slower hole shot, worse speed handling) increase the pitch of your prop.

Might be cheaper that eeking out an extra 20-30 hp.

Changing props will lengthen the life of your engine as well.

For every $1000.00 you spend You will only gain 1 mph, It is the hull not the engine.

what do you add to get an extra 20-30 hp, the boat is a crownline 202 with a with a 305 murcruser

Crownlines might actually take better to extra HP than a Direct Drive. There are marine superchargers. K&N makes air filters that claim to increase HP and torque.

Have you thought about a nose-cone on lower drive? Maybe high-grade spark coils, performance air filter, twin tip spark plugs, aluminum intake manifold, thru-hull exhaust conversion, stainless "chopper" props, bennett trim tabs, high output ignition, yellow top batteries, extra ventilation into engine compartment.......etc. etc? www.hotboat.com is definitely your "power" connection. Good luck!
