Wondering whether there are any tricks on the horizon that will be groundbreaking. I expect to keep seeing riders step it up (in terms of more rotations, bigger air, better style, better control, difficult grabs). Pete rose 900's, 1260's, Japan Air bs 180. Is this it? Is there a totally new invert?

I'm hoping wrapped tricks and reverts emerge again.

crazy banking variations like Harf's ts bs 5

Yeah, i guess that too: crazy variations (nearly inverted off-axis, slowed down 180's etc.).

I dont know what direction wakeboarding will go or what new tricks we will see. I think peopel 180s to trick will continue, i.e. 1260's, pete 7s and 9 stuff like that. Personally I would really like to see the people continue to place HUGE emphasis on style. Making things look clean. Adding "Bang" to the trick, like snowboarding what snowboarding went though a few years ago. Making tricks looks effortless and clean. I prefer that anyday over a hucked 1440 or something. That being said we do have a lot of riders who make tricks look really clean and they are hucking, like sovens crow 7s, super tech and super clean.

I wanna see the return of the ORBITAL~

Nick

You just made me feel old. A long, long, long, time ago, in the land of 3 event skiers the was a man named Darin Shapiro, gods gift to wakeboarding. He basically invented ever trick on a wakeboard. Kidding- I assume you know about the great Shapiro.

An Orbital is a backside rotating spin that goes over the rope. Shapiro Did Orbital 3s and 5s I believe even a few Orbital 7s. Get your hands on a copy of "Overdue" the O'brien team video form I think 2001 He does tons of them in the video. They are amazing, He would Grab all the way through the rotation. I will see if I can find a pic or video of it.

The Orbital is an over the line spin. Your board actually goes OVER the rope.

Ohhh yea I saw Shapiro do that in a video one time. Thanks for clearing it up!

Andy,

I think at 1:18 in this video Darin does one. I didn't watch the rest, but if i remember right he does more.

rewind spins...what other sport can do these and make them look as cool?? collin wright was on to something!
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       08-26-2008, 1:31 PM Reply
Yeah I have seen that video that's the basic concept but he used to Blast them way into the flats and land them crazy blind

So sick dude. You ever tried one?

i always thought a christ air on a wakeskate would be cool, any videos out there?

The last thing Collin Wright was onto was burning wakeskates

Kiley-

Andrew Adkinson does the suicide Raley.

whats the story there anyways? colin burnt someones wakeskate? i'd love to hear the story behind all of these rumours? whos skate was it, etc..the W'5's

Nice Andy, as soon as I saw this thread I thought "Orbital!!!" and you nailed it! I'd like to see more rewind spins too, but for me I want to see people going into the flats more. W2W is cool, but big is the "new" tech.
Old     (scott_a)      Join Date: Dec 2002       08-26-2008, 2:21 PM Reply
How is a suicide raley at all similar to a christ air?
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       08-26-2008, 2:36 PM Reply
Scott I suppose its not really but he does pull his hands way back into a similar position.

um...right.

Don't know if that was also an orbital at a minute fifty seconds into the video but it was awesome. I'd love to see more stuff like that too. Also agree with big stuff into the flats bein' the new "tech". I'd rather see a huge bs 180 or fakie into the flats than a 900 wake to wake any day.
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       08-26-2008, 4:01 PM Reply
Colin burned a lot of stuff but he would have had to smoke himself retarded to try and lite up a wakeskate.

Is rewind like shifty? Anyone remember Necrason and his sick heel Shifty 5's? I liked that trick, bring it back.
Old     (thane_dogg)      Join Date: Jun 2002       08-26-2008, 4:29 PM Reply
an orbital to me looks like a roll to blind but you rotate to blind first and then roll. Kinda weird I guess. Very cool looking trick.

A japan air to bs 180 seems possible toe side.

Andy, I think you meant to say:
"God's gift to wake"

I still want to see the elusive Boner Flip. It is the only wakeboarding maneuver (as far as I know) that I've never seen.

the guys at Alliancewake, with their goofball contests, should do a Biggest Boner contest to see who can launch the biggest one of a double up.

What exactly is a suicide raley, I've been doing something I called that for a few years now, basically when trying to learn the raley. Throw raley, let go of rope, tuck and roll, landing flat on my feet, as I sink into the water. Great way to end a run.
Old     (to_blind)      Join Date: Mar 2007       08-27-2008, 8:11 AM Reply
yeah, rewind=shifty, only a little more than a shifty...a super shifty. murray has done full handle pass fs 3's to bs 3's of the double up, they look super cool, just haven't seen too many good shifty/rewind tricks lately.
Old     (onthewatermo)      Join Date: Jan 2008       08-27-2008, 8:35 AM Reply
Has anyone done a wakeskate to other wakeskate transfer (ie, one just floating along in the water or thrown from the watercraft)? Also, and this one is pretty stupid, has anyone jumped and landed on the rope with the handle behind them and rope running underneath their board?
Old     (to_blind)      Join Date: Mar 2007       08-27-2008, 9:43 AM Reply
andy, sorry man, i don't think your 2nd idea will work. or look cool. i'm gonna bite my tongue on this one...and your first idea has been done, sort of, more along the lines of a w2w/kicker board swap(with a 2nd skate under your arm, etc..)

on another note, there was some guy in BC doing a cpl. inverts (w/grabs!) on his wakeskate, does anyone have footage of that?

I know this sounds really crazy, but I was thinking of a new trick yesterday that I dont quite think anyones landed. Not sure though. Anyways you know how philip soven does the whirly dick. Basically he does a whirly 5 and then passes the handle and goes to 7 at the last second. Well imagine an S-bend to blind and at the last second pass the handle and pull it around another 180 landing regular again instead of blind. Would this be considered a double S-bend??? Just food for thought

JD

A suicide Raley is when you lay out a big Raley, Tug that handle ot bring it down and let go of the handle and snatch it again, land and ride away.

Dave-

Shapiro does or at least did S-Bends to Blind I will try and find the video link, its on the net somewhere.

pretty much every s bend trick has been done on the cable
Old     (knarbar)      Join Date: Nov 2006       08-27-2008, 10:22 AM Reply
I know every Sbend pretty much has been done on the cable and I know shapiro does them to blind but Im talking about after the Sbend as your turning to blind pass the handle and complete a late bs 360. So basically an Sbend and then a late backside 3
Old     (knarbar)      Join Date: Nov 2006       08-27-2008, 10:24 AM Reply
Ive seen parks do the double s bend but the whole trick is stretched out in the railly form. I want to know if anyones ever done a double Sbend but the second rotation is HANDLE PASSED? Similar to the Whirly dick

Anybody know of anybody doing a Backside S-Bend? Just a thought. Raley to Front would be pretty cool. I know that came up before in a thread somewhere. Bring back the BALLER spins! haha

I think you may see tricks taken onto obstacles. Stuff like throwing a wake crow and landing it on a rail. Who remembers the vid from a year or 2 ago?

is there any video out there of a good suicide raley?
Old     (focker)      Join Date: Aug 2006       08-27-2008, 11:38 AM Reply
Ben - everyone who has ever done an S-Bend spins backside. The definition of an S-bend is a raley with an overhead backside 360.

Ben - If you mean frontside, then it's just a layed out backroll.

that happened in snow and it fizzled out pretty quick.

haha thanks for pointing that one out... i guess that what happens when you sit in the office for too long... if i'm here for another hour or two i'll probably be thinking of this sweet trick where you cut towards the wake pretty hard, stand up, and land on the other side.
Old     (razorjaw)      Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Australia       08-31-2008, 2:39 PM Reply
Dave, I've seen them done at cable many times but I don't know the name for them. The cable crew have many different names so I'll do a little research...

handle pass with the hand on the handle goes straight over the back. the catching hand does the same thing as an ordiary handle pass but reached farther up to grap the handle.

someone needs to invent so kind of osmosis invert like a back mobe or a pete rose.

I wanna see some grabbed shifty inverts and maybe a wrapped crow 7 ?
Old    benj_t            08-31-2008, 9:32 PM Reply
i think elephant to blind would be sick, its probably been done but ive never seen it, also ive been thinking of something called double scarecrow, its like a scarecrow to tantrum to blind. i guess it would be kind of like parks double back mobe.
Old     (hawk7)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-01-2008, 12:23 PM Reply
Benj I was asking about those a while ago, no one said it had been done.

What is the name of these first two tricks mark kenney does on the cable, looks like an off axis rewind spin, or a 911 to blind? the second looks like an s-bend to blind?

Edit: I wanna see more stuff like orbitals, baller spins, tumble turns, stuff that most pros do when theyre just messin around, always cool to see a rider treat the lake like a playground. and almost forgot, rewind mobes would be cool.
