UNDERCARRIAGE RUST ON NEW CHEVYS

Take a good look under your new Chevy. I just met with the GM service rep for NC and he told me that Chevy choses not to paint steering and suspension parts on new Chevy and GMC trucks.

He went on to say that GM would not customize my new 07 truck to prevent the parts form rusting.

Make sure you get your new Chevy customized before you buy it or better yet buy another brand.

They do not paint:
Control Arms
Driveshaft yokes
The engine block
Steering arms
FWD driveshafts

If you are concerned about rust just get it rust-proofed. Most dealers add this as an option, but there are tons of companies that provide the service aftermarket. I’ve done this with all of my trucks, and the companies that I have had do it offer a lifetime rust warranty.

If you don’t rust proof it, then you still have the GM warranty. The items you have mentioned don’t require paint anyways, and if you have some rust it will just be cosmetic. I’ve owned Chevys and GMs for over 15 years and have never had any rust issues. My ’03 2500 HD doesn’t have paint on the parts you mentioned either, but it hasn’t resulted in any problems.

I think you need to think “Big Picture” here. I would be more concerned about the engine & drivetrain as opposed to paint on parts that don’t really require paint. You made a good choice, the Chevy will provide you with years of reliable service.

This is really irrelevant. These parts dont require rust proofing and like the poster above said, the paint would be purely cosmetic.

This is not a big deal, unlike the new Tundras having tranny problems.

Dude you should see the axle's on my truck, and the rear diff. Looks like I parked it in the saltwater for a year.

Uhh i hate to tell ya this but with the exception of the engine block (until recently) that's the way it's pretty much been forever. What's the big deal? You driving it or looking at it?

If you're after relevance, what is the relevance of the Tundra problems to this thread? Sounds like the thread hit a nerve.

Yeah, why worry about the tranny in the Tundra when the engine will probably swallow the camshaft long before the tranny gives out.

Too many people take this board wayyy too seriously.

and you get a 100,000 mile 5 year warranty on all new chevys.

Someone educated me about the tranny problem that the Tundras are having please. Also, any other issues you have heard of.

The part that scares me is that they are not replacing the trannys now, just the tc.
