What do you guys think about this boat, my buddy is looking at buying a new boat and I thought that the x-80 with the diesel engine would make for a nice boat. Oh and by the way, money is really no object for this guy.

if he wants a wakeboard boat I would say no...its a cruiser but to be used purely for wakeboarding I would so look X-35/X-45
they are still big boats but for way better for wakeboard ( or so I hear)... or Nautique 230

Old     (joshbuzz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       03-02-2008, 3:53 PM Reply
Tige over an X-80?? What are you thinking?? a 28 foot boat over that and money is not an option, I would not choose the Tige.
Old     (want2ridealot)      Join Date: Jul 2007       03-02-2008, 4:55 PM Reply
The Malibu Wakesetter 247s are extremly nice boats. Tons of room, BIG wakes, surf and wakeboarding.

what's with the VW Engine beef?

Cause VW is a global leader in the Diesel?

Maybe because they make GM, Ford look silly in terms of efficiency and technology?

Drive a TDI Jetta or Touarag V10 TDI and you'll change your mind...
Old     (mox369)      Join Date: Jan 2008       03-02-2008, 5:43 PM Reply
any other mastercraft models use the Diesel?? the only one that i saw was the X-80, i looked into the x-45 and you cant get the diesel option.....
Old     (big_brandon)      Join Date: Dec 2005       03-02-2008, 5:58 PM Reply
HAHHAHAHAH, that's funny JOSH. Seems like peeps in Houston are think'in differently than you HAHAHHAHAH......
Old     (26lacefield)      Join Date: Aug 2006       03-02-2008, 8:24 PM Reply
i thought Josh's comment was funny too. i think theres a LOT of people that would go with the RZ4 over the X80. the X 80 isn't a wakeboard boat(technicaly it is but still not). its a cruiser. a lot of people think the bigger the boat the bigger the wake. thats true to a certain point. once you get past 24 feet they're just too big to handle properly and just don't displace the water properly.
Old     (evil0ne)      Join Date: Sep 2006       03-02-2008, 8:53 PM Reply
As a Tige owner, I'd say money no object I'd go with the X-45 with the 8.1L.
Old     (wannabewakeboarder)      Join Date: Feb 2007       03-02-2008, 9:07 PM Reply
Put an 8.1L Vortec in 21ft V-drive with a deep free board and sac it out, You'll have a bigger wake than you think, Its not all about size(to a point) But the main things would be a deep freeboard so you aren't taking water over the sides of your boat and beefy motor to push 4k of ballast and your wake will be amazing
Old     (joshbuzz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       03-02-2008, 9:08 PM Reply
I agree, the X-80 is a terrible wakeboard boat. it will spray the crap out of you at 70 feet unless your riding at 27 MPH which is a little fast for my liking, don't get me wrong. the surfing is amazing, as it should be, and it is one of the best cruisers out there.

If money's no option, and your looking for a cruiser, why wouldn't you take the X-80 over the tige??

As a wakeboard boat, if you're looking for quality, and could afford an X-80, I would suggest the X-45(It handled the rough waters of Lake Houston yesterday VERY well, and threw a great wake), the new X-35(nice deep hull to fight the chop, plenty of interior space, a flippable observers seat to face forward or back, and plenty of bling), the Nautique 230, or the Malibu Wakesetter 247. I saw the 247 on the water yesterday and the boat was gorgeous. Very clean, and it threw a very nice wake.

Brandon, peeps in Houston are thinking differently than me? No need for you to be an arse. The only rebuttal to my comments came from Tige owners, big surprise. Why'd y'all miss the GCWA event yesterday?? The weather was great. We had a X-45, and a X-15 out, Nautique had a couple customers boats, and Darryl Moore had a great looking 247 out there. Great crawfish and good times!!

Moxilla, you are correct, the X-45 does not currently have a diesel option nor does the X-35. To the best of my knowledge the VW engines are available in the ProStar 190, 197, X-7, MariStar 280 and X-80 only.

If your buddy is in MN have him look me up, we have an X-45 and an X-35 on the floor and I have an X-80 in the warehouse that he could take a look at.

Doesn't Rusty's Xstar have a deisel in it? How many of you have actually rode behind an X-80? Seems like there are a lot of comments from people who really have no idea about the boat. Now, I have never been in one, but i have seen videos of people riding behind them and they looked like they were doing just fine.

I'm not sure about Rusty's boat. I know that MC has put diesel engines in X-Stars before, but it is not a factory option for 2008.

If Rusty's boat does have one my guess is that it will be available in 09'.

Paul, we've got two at the shop, and have taken one out before. Like I said, the riding wasn't the greatest unless you're going upwards of 28 mph, and the surfing was killer!! That's not hear-say, that's experience.
Old     (big_brandon)      Join Date: Dec 2005       03-03-2008, 9:11 AM Reply
My comment was ment to get a chuckle. But I will guarantee the Tige to run circles around the X-80 or X-45, not to mention the X-Star. MC has some nice design on some of their features, boat handling not to be included in that list.

Josh, couldn't make it out because we were on Conroe all day demoing and delivering new boats to customers. Wish we could have been there, but business comes before pleasure. Don't worry, we'll catch up on the pleasure when it slows down in about 9 months. HAHAHAHAHA....

haha, alright Brandon, I can take a chuckle!! And I agree that handling on anything of ours over 21 feet isn't the greatest. That 80 is fun t drive with the dual throttles though!! and the Prostars handle extremely well, I'm sure you've seen the video of Eric taking some water over the bow on a power turn before he gets it right lol.

How was the water at Conroe?? I hope it was warm and not choppy like it was for us! We left half our shop behind, guess that's the downfall to working in the industry lol.

Sell anything good??

I got money that says that X80 will smoke any wakeboard boat out of the hole.
Old     (joshbuzz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       03-03-2008, 11:41 AM Reply
I would say you're correct, it is a big boat, 26.5 feet without the platform, but two 8.1 L's will smoke almost anything in the wake world!!
Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       03-03-2008, 11:44 AM Reply
I was looking at some #s a while back and it showed it had a quicker time from 0-36 than the PS 190. That was with twin MCXs though.
Old     (joshbuzz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       03-03-2008, 11:49 AM Reply
hmm, I'd think they are about the same, but I'm not sure. I haven't been in a PS 190 or 197 in a long time. I would guess that a twin MCX would be able to keep up with the PS, but the PS' holeshot is so nice!!
Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       03-03-2008, 11:54 AM Reply
No, it was actually quicker according to the tests.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       03-03-2008, 1:34 PM Reply
The X-80 with the twin engines is faster than any other boat in MC's line. It also uses twice the gas doing it, but if you can afford a $120k boat you could probably afford the gas.

The wake is actually pretty good for a pro-ish level rider. You have to be ok riding fast for it to be good.

It's a great big water, all day, wakeboard boat. The fridge and head are nice touches if you're out for long periods of time. It has a ton of space and works great in rough water. I'd bet 1/2 of them made ended up in Tahoe.

If I was buying a $ is no object boat I'd get a X-star or X-45 with a big block. That or a 247 Malibu.

watch the pull episode from just under 2 years ago or so with murray and keith lyman riding doubles. I know one of the riders that was on that trip and he said the X-80 only had stock weight when they were riding.

i think it will definately change your mind on the boat and why tige is the worst imiation of any pickle nose boat

you ask whats wrong with the VW engines. ask mastercraft they are blowing them up at an alarming rate from a good source in the marine engine industry. dont think the VW gona cut in the wakeboat world.
