This is my first attempt to upload a picture. Clubmyke, is this your boat model, the SV211, 2005. It appears to have minimal V or deadrise in the stern. There is some controversy regarding V or no V in the stern for optimal surf wake. What is your view, and how much deadrise is there in the 211?

P.S. Judging from the boat's substantial freeboard and your awesome pictures, this boat might be the one I'm looking for!
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-14-2006, 9:09 AM Reply
Jim, I think the minimal V (at least in that particular hull) helps in some way with the wide transition the 211 produces.
Old     (clubmyke)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-14-2006, 9:39 AM Reply
jim,

where is the stern and what is deadrise ? honestly i dont know.....

i think the swimstep plays a part as does the hydrogate..

i would love to get my hands on a 226 (bigger 211) the only thing i notice is bigger boats require more weight to sink them...

btw, the new 220 is suppose to be very good..has anyone any pictures ?

That picture is helpful. Just to the right and left of the base plate that supports the hydrogate, you can see that the bottom of the boat angles upward toward either side of the boat. That is deadrise. Zero deadrise would be horizontal. Thanks for the feedback.

Sean or anyone else, is the 211 a "minimal" V or "moderate" V? It appears to be less V than the Enzo. (Sorry everyone, Im getting off topic, Ill try to post another picture soon.)

club- I usually hit the lake on Mon-Tue. I go to Pleasant, Saguaro, and Bartlett. Right now I'm in crutches, so a Powell trip (while o' so inviting) doesn't make sense. Whenever you're in town, and can go on those days, lets do it. I've got quite the wakesurfing setup myself and will be back at it in October!!!

Here are a few from yesterday. In the first you'll notice my 5 year old son crying because the handle from the rope that was tossed in the boat hit him in the back of the head before it bounced back on the sun deck then into the water. The second is my buddy Vinnie do what he calls a "VinSpin." Upload

I've been behind a smaller I/O and the prop was damn close. This would have been a bit of a challenge to hit, w/ the ridable section far back from the blender and under the swim deck. My boat's still down, and no one else called to go ride that day, so it was worth the risk!

I posted earlier in the summer about surfing behind a large I/O. Of course people told me not to do it, but like curtis's photo shows, the large size of the boat allows you to get pretty far back there. There is no way he is in danger of the prop that far back.
Old    surfdad            10-03-2006, 11:52 AM Reply
You know Paul, virtually everyone here is an advocate for the sport. We seek to protect it and encourage others to join in and practice the sport safely. Curtis seldom asks anyone's opinion about his boat and typically is rather flippant in response to anyone questioning his safety practices. :-) Not belittling you Curtis, my friend, but facts are facts. You aren't in need of a dose of self-confidence. :-) I also believe that Curtis uses his boat with the idea of not causing property damage or risking harm to folks.

There are inherent risks in surfing behind an I/O, regardless of size. There are inherent risk in wakesurfing period. The consensus amongst those most knowledgeable and those practicing the sport that are also advocates seeking to preserve and protect it, is that surfing behind an exposed I/O is dangerous and should be avoided. Even Curtis in his response indicated it was "worth the risk".

The danger isn't in hitting the prop that far back, it's in hitting the prop when you are close. Falling forward on starting or some other accident. If the I/O is exposed, the risk exists and the advocates for the sport are always going to tell you the same thing - Do not do it. It's nothing personal, more protective in nature. You, like Curtis may feel it is "worth the risk". Hopefully no one attacks your character, merely states the general consensus that it isn't worth the risk.

Jeff, I was not trying to be beligerant in my post, so if it came across wrong, I appoligize. It appears that he is surfing a good 20ft back in that photo. How would it be anymore dangerous than skiing behind an I/O? I have not wakesurfed before, but I would like to try it out. I bought a 30ft Cobalt last summer that throws a monster wake pretty far back. I was thinking(correct me if I am wrong) that if you start out with a 20ft line, it would all but eliminate the risk.
