Here it goes.. I am going to be installing 2 Wetsounds Pro 80's on my Tower, 4 Wetsounds 6.5" interior speakers, and one Wetsounds 12" sub and the Wetsounds WS420 eq. in my boat. I have a JBL 400W amp that is a 2 channel amp. that I am considering using on the PRO80's. I am thinking about a Kicker ZX700.5 to run the interior speakers and sub for cost concerns. My question is do yall think this will be powered correctly. I am concerned about cost because I still have to get a new head unit and remote and add a 2nd battery to the boat.
The 700.5 is a great amp. That should be sufficient for the interior but the sub may be a little under powered. The JBL amp may be enough to power the pro 80's But I don't know the specs on the amp. Most likely its over-rated in power and you will be unhappy with it.
Do it.The jbl's are a good amp, and the wetsounds are pretty efficient, so you should be o.k. The zx should take good care of the rest. And in the end if your not happy, all the work and wiring is there, and you can just upgrade.
Ryan, JBL amps are CEA 2006 compliant so it's not going to be over rated nor is the ratings on thier amps "peak power" it's RMS at 4 ohms some of their mono amps are rated at 2 ohms which is fair since most everyone runs their sub amps at 2 ohms. Most of their amps are under rated not over rated.
turkish, if you wanted to stay with JBL they also make a nice 5 channel amp that may work although the interiors may be under powered unless you drop it to 2 ohms. Also look at the Alpine PDX5 it's a great amp too.
