wetsounds pro 80's and 485's are always a great choice and not too crazily priced. They are very loud and are well made. Very clear with the right amps, Amps are just as important if not more so than the speakers you select too. I would ask about what amps to use once you select a speaker so that you can get the most out of your choice.

A lot of people around here are getting the new Dbot5 speakers. A couple of the big dealers here are supporting it.
They look awesome, have hidden horns, and are loud and clear.

By the way...around here is in SoCal.

You might want to look into the Wet Sounds since they are out of Texas. They make a great product.

We carry the wet sounds and the HSE stuff. Either way you will be happy.

If I can help in any way let me know.

1 Vote for WETSOUNDS!

Have the Illusion tower? If you do check out doing the newest package on the market the "Double Up" From Wetsounds plus a pair of 60x. With this you will end up with four Illusion specific 6" midrange with horn loaded compression drivers that mount to the factory upper and lower locations and two 8" midbass drivers that will mount to the cross brace. Plenty of volume, lots of midbass for a full sound, head clearance, OEM fit and finish and the envy of everyone else on the lake.

If you have the Titan tower use the PRO80s and MB-8s for a very balance sound.

These are both the ideal killer setups from my experience for this boat.

Yes these things are loud. The engineering that goes into these style speakers are for the tower application. Most manufacturers in the early days (and still a few today) of tower set ups were using car speakers that didn't cut it. Wetsounds are made to be heard at cleanly at 80 and engineered for 150 feet unlike a car speaker that is for few feet away.

For the titan tower I would suggest the pro80s and mb8s.

The PDX 150.4 should do the trick.

Do you have the illusion tower or the titan?

Titan 2-485's...Illusion 4-80's
Old     (soundbox)      Join Date: Oct 2007       12-03-2007, 7:16 PM Reply
Loudest:

Titan: 6 PRO60s (2 with swivel u clamps)
Illusion: 4 PRO60x & 4 PRO80 (2 with swivel u clamps)

For overall recommendation look at my first post of this thread.

This is only my opinion. There are going to be many right answers to this question. No matter what you go with from Wetsounds it will be loud and clear for anyone in the boat or at the end of the rope. The decision is how loud you want to be and how much power you have.

Titan you can go with 6 pro-80's on the 23 at least...I had that on my last Malibu, but would probably go with 4 80's and 2 mb-8's to get a fuller sound if I was going it again. My new boat has an illusion and I am not positive what I am going with yet. Still checking out new configurations. I don't want to use much of the crossbar as the illusion is a much lower tower than the titan.

wkerat-

Great feedback. I havn't tried 6 pro80s on the titan yet but I'm glad to hear that someone has. Think that the MB-8s are going to catch on quick next season. Have any pictures of your last setup?

Ben,
I have a ton of pics on my work computer, but if you check the wet sounds customer gallery look on the last page top row. It was a green and white 23 with custom painter pro 80's. Year before I did a threesome and have to say the fullness of sound with the 485 was great and coming from a long distance seemed louder. At boarding lengths the 6 80's offered a full wrap of sound and when turned up would hurt your ears. That is why i think the mb-8 would better balance it.

Do you have any photos of illusion x installs? I am going with a vtx this year and am thinking about the 4 60's 2 mb 8's, but also may try to fabricate a bracket to move the low set of 60's toward the transom more so i can get a set of 80's in the upper mount... I would love to put a 485 on there but the tower is just too low and i don't want to put any up top

Guys that like wetsounds, how do yall feel about the 3 some package.
Old     (wkerat)      Join Date: Sep 2002       12-04-2007, 10:16 AM Reply
The threesome is a great package. Loud balanced sound. The only negative is it is a pain to mount the 485 on a titan because of the curve. You will need to order swivel brakets for all 4 mounts (2 for the pro-80's and 2 for the 485). I mounted the 485 on the front bar of the titan with the 80's on the rear bar, but that was mainly for looks.

The pro-80's will give you more sound and an easier mount, but the 485 surely gives a more balanced sound.

The 3 Some package is great in sound and looks. The only thing you need to watch out for is how you configure it with your amps.

Wet Sounds are awesome and so are HSE, I personally went with the HSE on the DRA boat because at loud volume they were the best sounding through out (TO ME).Everyone will have a different preference to what they like. I like the whole HSE package from the box itself to the clarity and the volume control. I think if you want quality sound you have to go with HSE or Wet Sounds depending on witch you like better.

What about the NVS products? There has only been one comment above for them. I too will be replacing my factory MC can speakers. I really like the HSE products and NVS. Not to say that Wetsounds are not great speakers. However, the hang height for me is too much and I will hit my head all the time - even if I go with the Pro60s.

You really can't go wrong with any of them. I have not heard hse, but they all follow the same concept and everyones ears are different. No matter what though all of these are going to kill your head room. I have never mounted the wetsounds to the factory mounts on a mc but i thought they had a mount for it...All of them are 8 or even 10 inch speakers (except the 60's)so even with variables in mounting height you are going to be talking a inch or so max. Pretty much to go with one of these you will have to sacrifice head room, or get something like a nvs entity or pro 60/80 and mount them wide on the tower so you have a pathway in the middle of the boat...

I got a chance to listen to all of them and I ended up going with the NVS Tyrants. IMO, they are the best sounding, the least bright, and very asthetically pleasing on the tower.

A friend of mine has the tyrants. They are loud as hell and clear too. I am going with wetsounds on my 236 because of the lockable quick disconnects because security is an issue for me. I will be able to remove the tower speakers for storage. Out of sight out of mind so to speak.

Dave,

I am also a fan of the white Wetsounds for use on boats with white decks. It provides a nice clean look (also easier to keep clean).

My pro 80's are very easy to remove from the brackets but I have a difficult time removing and reinstalling the 485 due to an alignment issue. For what ever reason the curve in my tower throws the alignment off ever so slightly making it a real pain in the butt. I just leave the 485 on the tower now since security is not an issue for me at my house.
