I have a 2000 SAN and last summer I noticed when I went full out, and about 2 minutes in It would die for a second then catch again. This is with out pulling any one. I talked to the dealer and they said it might be the spark plugs. I pulled the plugs and they look clean. Has any one exp. this with their Nautique?

Thx

Check your fuel filter and your fuel pick-up in the tank. My old I/O used to do that. The fuel pick-up was plugged with carpet fuzz and other crap. Sounds like the carb isn't getting enough fuel to run at the top end. I does at first until then stuff packs in there from the velocity of the fuel. Cheap easy check. If you find any crud I would replace the filter.

I had that happening with my carbed 351 and it turned out that when I retarded my timing 2*, that cured it completely. I never had that problem again. I would make sure the base timing is 10* with the spout connector out (assuming you have the gt40)

I had a similar issue on my '03. Full the distributor/ignition cap and look at it. Mine was completely corroded. Replaced it, and she runs like a champ.

Well they are half right...do replace the fuel filter, then run a fuel pressure test and a volume check. Report back.

It could be a sensor, along with a host of other things.

When was the last time that the fuel filter was changed (should be 2) one on the motor canister style is also the water separator and one on the stringer old metal style found on old trucks and tractors. Normally if its spark related you will get a rough idle along with cutting out at high rpm. Starving a motor of fuel is a high rpm thing. Cap, rotor, plugs, wires should be done every 100 hours. Fuel filters should be done every year with you oil change. Also use a fuel preservative such as stabil to prevent fuel in the system from turning into varnish in the off season.
