what is the best hull for offshore wakeboarding?

Can anyone tell me what the best shaped hull is for wakeboarding offshore? I've been looking at buying either a second hand Fletcher (18') Bayliner (18') or Shakespeare.... And should I get one with an inboard or outboard.. I've ridden behind both before and preferred the wake off the inboard... but open to suggestions....

I ride in the sea and to get to calm water we often have to travel through some rough stuff. I have a mastercraft 190 and when its loaded it is very poor in the chop with waves coming over the front and rear. If I change I will never go to a bayliner, fletcher or any other boat which is not a tournament boat as I really do not like the wakes, handling etc.
I know nautiques have a deeper V hull than my MC so I may look at one of them or maybe a maristar.
I guess I'm just a tournament boat snob but I have been skiing since I was 5 and I know what I like, even if its not ideal!

So what's the deal with handling? I can see the argument for a car...you have a very small path on which to travel (a road). You need a car with great handling so you can feel what it's doing...so you can take it to the edge without going over.

Now, do you really need "great handling" in a boat, especially a wakeboard boat? I always hear people say, "I got a direct drive because I need the great handling," or, "I/O's suck because they don't handle nearly as well as inboards." So what's the deal?

Oh, yeah...and if there are waves coming over the bow and stern of the boat, I'd say it's not handling very well.

I agree with Salmon, if your offshore you have water conditions that are dangerous in a well weighted comp boat unless you only go on the select days the ocean is smooth, and watch from shore the other days.

Post a thread about what BIG open fishing boats throw a decent wake. If you weight a boat you have to really have a good driver or they will dive it in.

I believe the two are mutually exclusive. An offshore boat will not have a good wake, and a good inboard wake boat will drive terrible in rough seas and I would never take one offshore (maybe from 6 am to 615 am when the ocean was glass)

I'm working on a 22 aquasport its a fishing/ diving/ soon to be wakeboarding as well it throws a decent wake and with som sacs you can go where you are going and then load it up.

now I need a tower (MONSTER TOWER.COM)

salmon tacos, I think handling means how well it steers and controls speed with a rider behind the boat. A good handling wakeboat will not allow the rider to pull the boat around and the driver will be able to give a good straight pull at a constant speed, something a tounament style boats excells at.
Not to say that they are the right thing for Offshore use though. My friend has a Parker 25' diesel and it throws a huge wake but it sucks to drive.
