Thats so crazy, it'd be fun to take a run in one of those and drive one...on an open lake.

I think that started in Australia. I know it's big down there. Saw a race 2 years ago when I was down under. I thought normal circle racing in blown flatbottoms at 100mph+ was nutz, but this is the craziest kind of boat racing I ever saw.

I saw those a few years ago on ESPN. Too bad they don't have tower speakers though. That's what lots of folks at the gaspumps thought the "roll cage" was for on the X-star when I first bought it..no joke. (Message edited by big_poppa_pump on November 05, 2009)

they race those once a year here in town. crazy fast.. the "lake" they run on here is a field they dig small trenches out of dirt and flood it. maybe 2ft of water. neighbor had one that ran an alky 4.3v6. north of 500hp and didn't weigh anything.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCMhUn4sP4o

They need to make the course wider and run them two at a time.

they have a ton of course officials. if one goes over, they're right there to get them back over. and i agree- side by side racing would be SWEET!!!!

When I was in NZ I went for a ride in one. They were next to the giant hampsterball we rolled down the hill. You wear a 4 point harness and arm straps to keep your arms from flailing about. My expectations were a bit too high, I was disappointed. The boat I rode in had a blown 6.0L all aluminum LS Chevy making 500+ HP. It puked oil out of the valve cover breathers from all the side G's. Thought it was going to catch fire from oil dripping on the header. Was not that much more exciting dodging drunks between Lost Isle and Union Point on a holiday weekend

Do they even let off the gas in the corners? it sounds like they just lay on it and the hull can hold so well that it doesnt break loose

Nope, can't turn a jet boat when you're off the gas. They slow down a little into the corners (sometimes) and hammer it through the corner to get the boat to turn. Most of the time the engine is running pretty much wide open which is why the sound barely changes, unless the driver makes a mistake.

If you lift off you have no steering as the jet coming out the back is what turns you. Here's a video of a crash from the world series http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/motorsport/3091632/Couple-escape-super-superboat-spill

a quicker version of chasing coots and grabbing them in the old 85 power slot mastercraft in the delta .... we would burn a tank of gas in the winter and ended up high in the tules more then a few times .... the boat went barely faster then the coots but the coots always went for the fake .... you could whip a 180 in front of them and actually grab them .... chasing them in the big v drive sanger aint quite the same LOL
