What are the air/water temps like in Tampa around late January early February? I'm planning a trip to McCormicks and wondering if the water will be super uncomfortable this time of year. I can fly to Tampa for $100 so I'm itching to try out this clockwise cable.

Water mid 60's to lower 70's. Air 60 to 80. Just depends.

tampwake is dead on.

Cables will changed much more/quicker than the lakes.... so if you hit a hot streak you're golden, a cold front will kill the temp fast.

The nice thing about a cable is that you start on the dock and can get your core temp up before falling. There are times I've been to the cable when was real cold and never took a spill.

I'm flying down to tampa tomorrow, I'll let you know how it is! :-)

I'm from Tampa and can assure you the water gets COLD then, low 60s at best. My lake is one of the shallower lakes and it will get in the 50s. Air temp fluctuates like crazy. You can have a high of 78 one day and then have a cold front hit and have a high in the high 50s. You 100% will need a full suit. I can assure you the water temp will not be in the 70s. January and February are off season for me personally.

Todd unfortunately you are coming down to one of our cold fronts with highs in the low 60s. I know this sounds warm but with 100% humidity it actually feels really chilly. Hope you brought the full suit

Full wetsuit is locked away in the boat for the winter unfortunately. However I have my dry suit, so I might just go that route after reading this thread!

Dry suit will be perfect!!! You will have a blasty blast with one. Way better than a wetsuit. It is not worth being the cool guy that is trying to be hardcore riding in a spring suit and freezing lol

I wouldn't risk the drysuit on rails... one odd fall you'll be putting a real nice hole it.

Honestly all you need is a heater top, as long as the sun is out you'll be fine (Florida people are just spoiled - no offense guys, but you are)

Today and tomorrow are the two best days for riding and OWC is closed both days. I have rode year round on days where the temp hits the 70's with just a shorty. IMO water temp isn't that important when riding the cable. Air temp is what matters to me.

I'm gonna be hittin up McCormick's a few days while I'm in Tampa Jan 6-9 and was planning on just bringing my full suit, but I'll bring my heater top. Probably will be similar to when we were at Wake Nation in early May, just a little cooler air temps. Will the cable be pretty empty? Any of you guys gonna be out there?

one hand if its cold the locals may stay home, but you run the risk of a lot of out-of-towners there for Xmas break

I don't care where you're from you would be CRAZY to just wear a spring heater top in Tampa during those months.

And if you have a dry suit wear it. You aren't going to rip it on a slider lol. I mean it's possible but the odds of that happening would be the same as ripping your boardshorts on a slider, which thankfully in my 11 years of cable riding haven't seen.

Iv rode at mccormicks everyday for the past year a 3/2 full suit is all you need. I'm in Ohio right now so I don't know what the temp of the water is but like someone said we get warm days where you arnt even in a heater it all depends on how strong the sun/wind is.
