So I decided to do oil myself this year. The last few years were done courtesy of my dealer along with other service or work I was having done. I have a problem with the oil filter location.

First, according to the engine literature, the filter is not appropriately installed for the v-drive package. It looks like the filter should be installed near the air cleaner for v-drives, and on the lower starboard side for direct drive. Mine is in the DD location. Are all the Pro-Vs this way?

If so, how the XXXX do you get that filter out?

Also, Calabria literature indicates there should be a drain hose, but I can't see that either.

back when we sold them at our dealershiop the filters were where you are talking about. at least i think they were(that was back in 02 and 03)did you take the the boards out so you can get to the whole side of the motor and not just take the little square out that they cut into there. the drain hose should be connected to the bottom of the oil pan. if you ever have to change the water impeller i'd suggest to take it to the dealer. for some reason i guess they haven't figured out how to put it in a easy access spot.

Nate,
Take it to your dealer and ask them to install a remote oil filter. This way you can actually change it yourself. Mine oil filter was in the same damn location. Unless you a friend that is an elf it is worth the headache.

I was able to get the filter off today, but only after a *%$#load of trial and error.

Endcap style filter adapter on a short extension with a breaker bar. Pull the side panel from the cargo compartment and have a helper hold the rig tight against the filter while you do the contortion move reaching into the hull cavity with the breaker bar from the V-drive access.

Next time will be much faster. It's one of those things where it's not a huge job once you find the solution.
