Black Boat, Am I crazy?

ok guys a little help here. I am getting ready to order my new boat, and really like the look of black boats, I never had anything but light colored ones, so I am looking for some opinions from those of you who have some experience here. both the interior and exterior? thanks

Cancel out the interior. Keep it light on the inside and black on the outside. also, keep a lot of Babes spot cleaner in hand to keep it looking good. Black boats look awesome on the water. what model are you looking at getting?

my boat is black on the sides and the tower is black... VERY HOT in the sun. some of my vinyl is grey and it will scald your feet... it is noticably hotter than the white vinyl next to it. i'd try and keep the interior somewhat light.

it is going to be hell to clean, but will look great on the water.

Black boats look hot, but as a detailer, I can tell you that they take a LOT OF WORK to keep them looking that way. After detailing many boats, cars, etc, I can honestly say that I will probably never own a black vehicle, boat, etc (and I have in the past). They do look hot though!

i have tested out an x-star, malibu lsv, supra 22ssv, and a b52v23 and to be honest at this point I am leaning toward the MB, by far the best surfing wake, I am really into the in floor ballast. I have a moomba lsv now and am looking to upgrade. The Mb seemed to have the best compromise of the wake not as steep as the supra, but not as long as the x-star or lsv. I liked the x-star, but not practical with kids, and wife...the lsv had the nicest fit and finish, but i didn't like the wake as much and the supra, well I am over ballast in bags.

black looks real cool......but once you get rid of the emotions with the colour and had a few good cleanings....you might be wishing you got something lighter.

I agree with Michael Z, I would never own black just would be to hot and a pain in the a** to clean it. Buzz above, is a detailer and wont even own one, that has got to tell you something.

Ive had black boats, cars, and trucks for 15 years. I really dont think its much of an issue keeping them clean - its just a mind set. IMO black just looks the best on vehicles - and when its clean and shiny, you will be happy.

i will always own black... i guess it just comes down to putting a little extra care and time into your toy... when you spend that much money on it why would you not...
after 125 hrs I don't regret the color choice at all.... definitely stay with light colors inside...

Diggs, do you trailer your boat every time making it easier to wipe down after every use? What is involved in the extra care? Just wondering since I might be considering a black boat as well.

I do trailer my boat. That certainly makes it easier. Each time we pull it out of the water we do simple spray and wipe down with either
-50/50 detail spray / water
or
-50/50 vinegar/water
That is really it. We do Wax the boat once a month as well and it still looks great. One big thing is if you tie up to other boats you need to use real soft bumpers or the bumpers will scratch you. Also we use Meguiars hard water spot remover to remove any stubborn water spots if we leave the boat in the water over a weekend....

I agree with diggs. i have an all black boat and diggs and i spend no more time in the parking lot wiping down than any one else when we get out of the water. if you are not wiping your boat down after pulling it out of the water then it would seem like a lot of extra work or if i didn't trailer my boat i would be a little hesitant. i don't wax as much as him, but i use babe's boat bright and it seems to keep it looking great for a while. the only thing that is a pain is the water spots. like everybody else said, go lighter on the interior

you should check out the X-15 if you want a great wakeboard wake and a great surf wake. It is also cheaper than the Xstar and has as a ton of room inside for a 21.5 foot boat.

Im also considering ordering an all black boat. Unfortunatley, the black rolls over into the interior also. I will have light vinyl. I will probably keep this boat on a lift quite a bit next year. I always spend extra time wiping down the boat, even with my current all white x2, but will I really hate life with an all black boat? I dont see the maintenace as a huge change for me becuase I spend alot of time cleaning my current boat. What are your thoughts, does it get miserably hot on a 85 degree day?

If you spend a lot of time cleaning your current boat, then you won't even notice a change. only difference is going to be how well you see the water spots. i was suprised that the deck did not get scalding hot as i expected. spent a week in shasta and powell an no one ever complained. the black accents in the vinyl got a little too hot at times thought. nothing a towel on the sundeck wouldn't fix.

I would not own a black boat like the ones pictured above, but only because I live in FL. If I lived in the NE or NW I would consider it, but never in FL...Black color combo or grey I would consider it.

Why? Mines black with white and tan interior. Its the interior you dont want black. The outside is in the water...

Im looking at having a black hull and deck (so the inside will be black) but the vinyl will obviously be light colored.

I have a dark blue and black hull w/ light color interior. I love the look of the boat it looks smaller and lower in the water even next to the exact same boat in white. I am a slave to water spots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My next boat will be white.

a little water spot info: Water spots are caused by the sun using the water on a given surface as a magnify glass burning the shape of a drop into your gel coat.

Water spots.... what about scratches. I picked up an all navy boat this year and every little scratch shows, and it shows white.

When I pull my boat out I wash it, dry it off and put it in the garage. I think it still looks great. I also leave it in the water in intervals of 3 - 14 days at a time. If black is your favorite look, I would not hesitate to go for it.

This is our second black boat This boat is keep on a lift and is much harder to keep clean. The other boat was taken out and whiped down every time.

I was a little nervous when we placed the order for our new boat, but so far it's been pretty easy keeping the water spots off. We keep our boat on a lift and I just make sure I take the time--everytime--to wipe it down at the end of the day. As far as the interior....we ordered all gray and it can get warm...but we usually sit or lay on a towel anyway, so it's not a big deal for us.

Once you go black you never go back!

I guess I need to buy some more dock sections so I can get to more of the boat it is still not near as easy........ but I think I will suffer through and keep it on the lift

This is our first all black boat & it is not as bad as i thought if you wipe it down after each use. here are some pics 08 X2

they suck ass long term if you plan to keep the boat more then 5 years I wouldnt recommend black. My family had a silver n black mastercraft for 25+ years and that black fades bad. plus its a headache to keep black.

If you go black be ready to clean. If you like black buy it and give it a try if you decide you don't like it sell it and go different. If you keep it on a lift exposed to sun get side curtains made that attach to your cover to keep the sun off. My dad had a blue boat and it faded bad. Keep it cover and waxed and you should be ok.

We went with a white hull because I did not want to see the rub marks from the trailer. We trailer about 3,000 mi a year and some of the ramps we go to are shallow and we need to power on and off.
