Amp Recommendations for Wetsounds 3-Some

Hello. I am wanting to get the Wetsounds 3-Some, but I am having trouble deciding on an amp. I am looking for an amp that will push the whole set independently of anything else. In other words, an amp dedicated to the 3-Some. I believe that a 4 channel amp will do the job. Use two channels for the two 80's and bridge the other two channels for the 485. I would appreciate any help anyone is willing to give. I am not a newbie to audio, but I am certainly not a guru. Thanks.

Kicker ZX850.4 = 175w @ 4ohm on 2 chnls for the Pro 80's, 425w @ 4ohm bridged/mono for the Pro 485

Zapco 1000.4 or Precision Power PCX 4125.

You can get the Zapco on woofersetc.com for around $650 and can pick up a precision power on ebay for around 300.

IMO...I would go with the PPI...It has internal fans and will not overheat.

Thanks for the info guys. Let me ask some more specific questions.

Per the Wetsounds website, the 485 shows 300w RMS and 600w Peak. Each 80 shows 200w RMS and 400w Peak. Now, correct me if I am wrong. Should I try to get an amplifier to provide at least the RMS value and ideally somewhere in between the two values (rms and peak)?

Also, does the 485 require a stereo connection vs a mono connection? Their website does not specify one or the other. I would think that the connection would need to be stereo since it contains 2 80's.

Like I said before, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I did a little research and found that these amps would be powerful enough to handle the 3-some.

What I am contemplating now is where to put the second amp. I own a 2005 X-2 with a stock JL amp already mounted on the inside wall of the port side walkway. I am leaning towards the Zapco amp. So,now, any thoughts on mounting would be nice.

I'd like to make a couple of comments on the 2 amps mentioned so far, PPI4125 (I've owned a few) the Zapco Ref 1000.4 ( I have owned a few and am currently an authhorized Zapco dealer).
Firstly, buying a Zapco amp from Woofersetc will not provide you with a warranty as they are not an authorized deaeler.
Secondly, both amps are good products but each have a slight weakness.
-PPI4125 cannot operate at high current below 12v or will let the smoke out. Been there done that (the manual will even warn you of this flaw) It also has some of the worst I've seen for power conncetors. Both issues can be improved/minimized but should be known.
-Zapco 1000.4 doesn't need a fan unless you bridge it. Zapco used to offer a fan kit but no longer. For every 1000.4 I sell for NVS tower speakers to be run in 2 channel (bridged mode) I attach a 1" fan (real easy) and that only issue is solved.
For the set up you are considering you would only bridge 1 side of the amp. You may not need a fan for this but I'd put on on anyway. I can provide you with the details if you want.

i called wetsounds and they recommended the zapco 1000.4 but that is a 1200 dollar amp and the next they recommended was the alpine pdx 4.150. and you can pick it up for under 400 dolaars. i wanted to go with kicker but was told that they are going doen hill and are doing more of a fosgate deal now whatever that mean.

I power my 3-some with a Memphis audio 550.4 and has plenty of power.

I power my 3 some with massive audio.

I second the Alpine PDX 150.4 for the 3 some.

Great amp for the size, money and the power it delivers.

I'm running the alpine pdx 4.150 on my threesome setup. great amp.

Look into the Memphis stuff, great product and a great company. we do a ton of there amps in boats and they rock.
