In the user manual for the XS-12 it has plans for a tube port. I'm looking at building a slot ported box for an XS-12 and was wondering if anyone else had built one and what the dimensions were for the box/slot?

Corey why are you set on a slot port. Round ports properly tuned sound better than slot ports 9.5 times out of 10, especially if you use a round port with flared ends.

Either use the 3" tube port they recommend or call John Gyver at WS and ask him. Justin (tier 1 customer service guy) told me to call him before changing their enclosure plans. I'd do that if I were you.

We built a tube-ported box for an XS12 last week and it sounds awesome with channel 5-6 mono of the SYN6 powering it.

I've got a picture of the XS12 box if you want to see it.

Not really set on anything, have just built slotted port boxes in the past and like the structure/look of them. If the consensus is tubed, then tubed is what will be built

Corey,

Pie times the radius squared. So your 3-inch round port should be seven square inches (1" X 7" or 2" X 3 1/2", etc.)

The port length and surface area determine the resistance which combines with the box internal compliance and woofer parameters to arrive at a tuned frequency. As long as you don't alter these ratios, the shape of the port will have little impact.
