Seems like you here that about everywhere, its normally people doing what they think is market research and half a$$ probing turned promotion. The only solid deal I've heard of is Cincinnati's... They actually have their stuff together.

I have been investigating what it takes to get a cable park. It is very expensive and requires a lot of work. Anyone can say they want to try and build one, but the person needs about a million dollars to make it work

in cali you need WAY more than a million. Probably at least 5 million here!

Not sure about the 5 Mil. Cable system is $400,000 just takes land after that. Cali will have one soon enough and it is not a 5 Mil project.

Just takes land? I know you're just generalizing but within that land is permits, surveyors, environmental testing, etc. Having a piece of land and $400,000 for the cable is a great start at submitting your proposal.

A-dub LOL I was generlizing. I am very aware of all the permits and testing that go with it. 2.5 mil is a better number. all I will say is it is possible in Cali just hold on.

I figured you did.... Goodluck!

Just to put it into perspective, San Jose just finished building the nations largest skate park, and the proposal was to have it "not to exceed $500,000". I'm not sure what the final cost of it came out to be, but I would assume that the cable park would have to be at least 3-4 times larger than this skate park and the cost to operate is obviously much more expensive. So to open a park in Cali, I think that 3-4 million would be about right.

Although...water is cheaper than concrete :-)

true, but I would think that the cable equipment (the pully system, metal towers, etc.) would end up being more expensive than concrete and rebar.

I agree it is way to expensive in Cali and NO ONE should try and put one in.

OK, I just got an email response from a guy I know at the city, and it ended up costing $4.5 million once it was all said and done. So just the land itself to build a cable park out here would be probably over $2 million

According to CableWakeboard.com the Rixen or Sesitic Systems are around $400K. Land 20-30 minutes outside of the perimeter in ATL is pretty well available...you could scare up 10 acres with some type of water source pretty easily.

Sounds like a no brainer to me...I'll pony up $100 bucks to get it started...someone else just has to throw in the other $999,900 and I think we could do it.

Cable equipment is $400,000

So let me ask a question. If a cable park was built within 3 hours drive from you how often would you make the drive?
Old     (behindtheboat)      Join Date: Aug 2006       04-28-2008, 1:27 PM Reply
at these gas prices? Twice a month :-)

1 hr drive= nearly every day
2 hr= approx 3-4 times a week
3 hr= 1 a week if that

I agree...less than 2 hours from the house and I'd be there at least 3 days a week.

It makes sense with all the german's putting in cable parks now. The dollar is so cheap to them that they can buy the land for nothing now and in 10 years be rollin pretty hard

I'm surprised Lake Lanier Islands never set up a ski/wakeboard cable. That sort of thing seems right up their alley.

hard to do a cable park on a lake thats run by the corps... 90% of the lakes in georgia.First they let the levels fluctuate so half the year it would be on land, and its damn near impossible to get permits allowing it. Although ive heard talk about one on allatoona for years i think its all bs because ive never found anything to back it up.Although every wakeboarder on allatoona has looked at acworth beach and though it would be perfect for a cable park... Maybe all of us from atl need to throw down together on lotto tickets, probably got a better shot of getting a cable park that way

Not to mention that in cali youll probobly need a tree specailist to come in and tell you which trees you need to keep there, a bug person to tell you which ant hills not to disturb, a dirt specialist......

Edit: where is the cable park in cali going to be Ben? I will deffinately have to go give it a test run, always wanted to try cable riding.

I was present to hear a certain Lake Lanier boat dealer GM tell a group of college wakeboarders that in 30 days Atlanta would have a cable park. Let's see, that was April 29th and it is now May 2nd and I've seen nothing or heard anything else about it.

MYTH BUSTED!!!
