Well, I rode a board for the first time in four years almost a weeek ago. I am not in the best of all shape, but somehow I got a very minor pinched nerve in my back over it (even thought I didn't really have any hard falls). It really doesn't hurt...hasn't since like the day after. It's got a small ache that's just enough to be annoying, but nothing serious. Has anyone else had a pinched nerve from wakeboarding? And if so, how long does something minor like this take to heal? Can I get back on the water again next weekend?

I strained a nerve in my neck on an incredibly horid face plat (my favirot trick). Well, I was done for the season it hurt so bad, but lets keep in mind, this is October, and anywhere els but Arizona, the season is prety much alredy over. Now to answer your question, I was down for about 2 weeks, but keep in mind, I'm a wussie, so you should probly be able to ride my the next weekend, maby sooner.

Pinched nerves happen all the time, especially from face plants and catching edges around the nose of the board. Sometimes the swelling in the spine only brushes the nerve so the hassle isn't as bad. Best way to avoid, in my opinion, is to focus on technique, don't try and progress too quickly and, most importantly, if the jump isn't looking or feeling right TOSS THE HANDLE. Holding on too long will increase chances you'll catch a bad edge. Most bad crashes I have seen, or taken, are from catching a front edge and getting whipped around. If you see the nose heading down or things don't just feel right, let go of the handle and all the forces dissipate pretty quick. Hold on too long and things can get ugly. Call me a wimp, fine, but my goal is to keep riding cuz I can't make progress if I'm hurt trying to save a bad jump.
