1986 mastercraft

is a 1986 mastercraft skier capable of producing a good wake with a lot of weight in it? thanks.

If your talking about the prostar 190 then I don't think so, but there have been some posts in the past about good results with the tristar.

Doubt it. My buddy has one and the 86 hull has the flattest slalom wake I've ever seen

Why does everyone give so much grief about these boats? They were designed as three event boats that needed to have a decent rampy wake for trickskiers. When weighted they put out a very clean tall wake. Especially the narrow PS boats (pre 91) that don't need as much weight to overcome beam displacment. Granted, when you crack 23+mph it's going to start to flatten out. My '93 is a bit wider than the '86 and it does great when loaded with people (rated for 9).

Are you guys trying to say an I/O would be better?

Brad the real answer to your question is YES, it will put out a good wake.

I had a 92 PS190 with about 1800 lbs ballast, and the wake was still smallish - similar to my VLX with a few people and no ballast. My first boat was a 17' open bow I/O prior to the MC, and although the MC was a prettier boat, I missed the room and, yes, the wake of that old POS.

If you're on a sub-$10k budget, look at SN2001's and Supra Sunsports. Be aware that closed-bow boats also become VERY cramped for more than 3-4 people when you run ballast.

Just for reference, I've had people complain at how small my wake is with no ballast, some love it for a great learning size wake, and a few good riders pull back flips and say it had great shape even with nothing but half a tank of gas a 4 people in the boat.

Trace, that's an awful lot of ballast and would keep me fully satisfied, but I'm far from beeing a good wakeboarder. But, the 91-94 PS 190s - sporting one of the best slalom wakes ever - isn't the boat he's looking at. But very true on how cramped the boat will feel even with an airboom or tower to get the gear up off the floor.

Apples to oranges - a VLX is in the upper deck of wakeboard boats. You're lucky to have one.

I have an 85 MC S-n-S 190 and it puts off a good (not great) wake, when weighted right. IE: a pair of 25Olbs FLY HIGH side sacks, and maybe some lead in the front. It also helps to have a 3-4 people riding with 2-3 folks in the back seat, and 1 person opposite the driver in order to even out the wakes.

I don't believe there was a design change between the 85 and 86 MC190 Hull... so you should be pleased with the wake that a boat of that vintage can produce.

Although the wake of those old MC will never compare to ones produced by a the old Correct Craft / Nautique 2001's or the latest and greatest wake boats.

Unless you're really killing it, the boat will meet any and all of your needs. Nice and rampy when weighted correctly. Prob one of the best boats for learning how to spin. Love mine.

Actually this hull will put out a nice clean wake with not much ballast... Maybe 600-800 lbs and it will be nice unless you are a pro or something...

I would agree the earlier boats would have more potential wake-wise than the 92 I had. My point was that if wake is your primary concern (which it sounds like it is), there are better choices in that price range. Correctly weighted 2001 and Sunsport wakes can compare very well to current top-shelf wake hulls.
