Skidder

How do you enter a skidder? I end up 1) coming up too fast and doing a mini jump or 2) getting the foil up and out of the water resulting in a nose dive. Also, when I try to pull a skidder, there is this weird "sucking" sound as the foil approaches the surface. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know, but have tried afew times and thought I had it but would sink. I was riding at 21mph and was recently told that I need to be at 24-26 for my size. Can't tell you much more but maybe some one else can enlighten us both.

Here are some tips:

-It is easier going faster
-Move your butt so that it's hanging off the back of the seat a bit.
-Pull up with your toes. It's like you are pushing your feet forward a bit and pulling up with the toes. Some people think of it as curling your toes up.
-Water with a slight ripple helps.


Bring the foil up slowly, as it's close to breaking the water, lean back (way back) pull up with your toes and keep the handle low.

You can often here a change in the coming from the water right before the foil breaks the surface.

I found that doing a little jump from inside the wake out and landing in a skidder was the easiest way to learn. This is also on of those tricks that just clicks for some people. It took me about a season to get a decent one going.

It really depends on the ski you have. If you have a regular sky ski you need to sit way back on the seat lean back and curl your toes. You do this in a very slow motion. A little ripple on the water and just outside the wake wilol make it easier to.

I found it's easiest to pull the skidder in the flats when the water has a slight wind ripple on it. Cut out, ride to the top of the foil, plant the handle down on your knees, when the wings begin to exit the water, lean way back & point your toes out the front with your heels lifted off the footpads. You can steer by lifting one foot or the other once it's locked in.

5{ air chair (black powder coated foil with no
foot pads) and there is no way I can get the foil to skidder. I recently rode Murphy's Sky Ski and found it much easier. Can the skidder be done on my old board? What do I do differently? help!!

It's tough on the old foils, Mike. It's basically the same steps as described above though. Let us know what technique your trying & maybe we can improve on it.

Got to try a batwing foil. Not really knowing how to skid, I was able to get something going. It was rough water also.

I rode a set of Bat Wings on my standard Skyski Shock tower this last weekend (had the fuselage drilled and tapped).

They skid so easy, I did a skidder as the boat was turning around and landed some gainers into skidders. I'd say that the LE front wing is easier to skid on, it tracks straighter.

Are you using the cast teebar with the batfoils.

Yes Sean and I are riding the bat wings with cast T-bars.

When you get them on a LEX teebar you will really appreciate how Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet they are.Be careful not to snap your cast bar.Check it out really carefully that there are no cracks starting to appear.

My next upgrade will be a Billet T-Bar. So far no complaints with the cast bar though but I suck haha.
