I have an 04 Moomba outback ls. The CD player will not work at all. It comes on but will not play CD's. This leads me to the Battery not suppling enough power. Volts on the dash read 12, this should be 14 at least correct? We had the alternator tested, seems it was okay. We ride the boat all day and still no charge? Do i need two batteries or a new alternator?

It sounds like if your getting power to the CD, your CD player might have a problem?

What kind of CD's are you tryign ot play are they burned cd's? Do you get an error message on the radio screen? Does the screen show the CD spinnign and you get no sound? or do you get nothing when you put in the CD. Your dash voltage is usually wrong, dont; go by that. hook up a voltmeter. You cd player will play down to probably 11 volts or so. (your battery will be very dead at this point) You'll only see clsoe to 14 when the boat is running. Sounds like an issue with the radio, if it turns on, you have enough power for it to spin a CD.

What does seems okay mean???? does that mean you tested the alt and yoru seeing 14.4 volts and a low current draw?

If you have a Clarion radio, that is most likely your problem. Mine, the CD player quit working. Many others have posted on here, that theirs quit as well.

The moomba dealership tested it becuase they didnt believe me. They said it was fine. I still say if a battery goes down into the 10-12 range that its the alternator not charging. I tried both burned as well as store bought. I'm going to put a new Blue top in this weekend and see if the CD player works.

To test the alternator get a volt meter (dont trust the dash meter) turn everything off (eliminate the load) and chect the voltage right at the battery - should be 13.8 to 14.4 volts.
