IMMEDIATE ATTENTION - SAVE YOUR WAKEBOARDING, WATERSKIING and BOATING in the LONG BEACH MARINE STADIUM

A public hearing will be held, by the City of Long Beach, tomorrow over the proposed rule change reducing the available hours of use of the Long Beach Marine Stadium for waterskiing, wakeboarding and boating to the public between the hours of 9am to 3pm. Support is needed to keep this rule from going into effect. Every person counts to stop this going itno effect.

This is part of the Alamitos Bay Marina Rebuild Public Meeting, and the rule change is being proposed by the Long Beach Rowing Associations and would go into effect immediately. The meeting will be held as follows:

Date : October 22, 2009 (Tomorrow - Thursday)

Time : 6:30 p.m.

Location : Wilson High School Auditorium
4400 E. 10th Street

(Located at Ximeno, between 7th and 10th

Bellflower to 7th – right turn or Redondo to 7th – left turn)

Questions, please call me immediately, Nick Heaney 407.491.1873

Your help with this matter is needed, please spread the word to keep those early morning and sunset runs available!

Man good luck. A similar thing happend in San Diego last year. The Zlac rowing club in Mission Bay started crying to the city about how they need to have Sail Bay all to themselves, even though they only use the water way from 5am-8am. Luckily the city decided to keep the mission bay rules the way the have been, which is fair to all users.

I suggest highlighting the point that giving rowers this time frame is baised to only their group and is unfair to others who use the waterway as well. If the city wants to maintain a fair and PUBLIC waterway all users should be able to enjoy the activities anytime of the day.

Well the joke of the whole thing from what I saw at the last meeting is this.

- City council wants their marina project passed.
- City council holds meeting a local rowers association to discussed plans.
- Rowers bitch about the city's plans taking away some of their rowing space in an already busy spot (makes it more dangerous and congested)
- City council without suggestions from rowers comes up with plan to appease rowers by increasing non boating time in Marine Stadium
- At meeting city council states this is not a discussion forum for the use of marine stadium ( up!)
- Three different rowing club leaders/presidents spoke up at meeting I was at saying they DON'T WANT the extra time in marine stadium, they just want the docks not to stick out any farther than they do now (which latest plan accomplishes).
- Nothing accomplished

Don't just attend the meetings. Make sure your write your representatives and politicians and if you have a representative organization have them schedule meetings to discuss the groups concerns.

It's good to get strong turn-outs to these public forums but it's often looked at as a obligation to the public and bitch session.
