I get about 17 or so on my '01 Yukon with 100K miles. Stock suspension.

About 15 around town, 13 towing the 21V, city or hwy.

It will be a much better ride than your Dodge Diesel, but it's no Mercedes or anything.

Like I said, I have 100K+ miles and have owned it for about 70k miles. Zero problems (knock on wood), and I love the thing.

that's combined city highway. I can get close to 21/22 mpg highway.

Towing the avg. size wake/ski boat with one should be around 10 or 11 mpg . . . That's what my friends are getting on theirs

05 Yukon 5.3L 12-13 in the big city. 14-15mpg on t he highway.
Towing my 2000 X-Star which I think is one of the smaller wakeboats around these days I avergae 10-11. I am driving at 70-75 while towing and on the highway at all times when I can:-)

I have owned Chevy Tahoes/Burbans and Gmc Yukons Yukon XLs my whole life all with the 5.3L. (a total of 6) BY far one of the best gas milage (w/o towing) and bomb proof large suv's on the market. There are for sure some different "trucks" I would consider if purely needing a tow vehicle, but mine also needs to be a family one.

Anyone tow with a 2 door Tahoe/Yukon ?

Not a Tahoe, but my 07 GMC crew cab is getting about 19.7 on the highway, a tick over 12 towing my 04 VLX and with about 10K on the truck it is showing an avg of 15.6. A solid 3K of that 10K is towing, and my drives to work are about 2 miles, so that cuts into the mpg. Once I hit about 73 MPH and higher on the highway the mpg drops quite a bit.

Hijack about to start

Anybody know what the 2500's average with the 8.1L? Was always kicking around that idea. There are the numbers on the window and then there are the actual values :-)

I always thought it would kill me in the big city driving, but now with a possibility of relocating to a more rural area the idea has popped back in for a 2500 Burban or XL

I tow with a 94 full size blazer (same as the 95-99 tahoe), but it has a TBI motor not the vortec of 96+

It gets about 15-16 fwy, 10-13 city, no idea towing. Make sure to tow in D, not OD.

Swatguy, I have an '01 2500 4x4 Sub with the 8.1 I've put 156,000 miles on it.

My mileage is always the same; city, hwy, or towing, around 10-11 mpg.

But with 455 ft. lbs. of torque and 340 horses, even many diesels have a tough time staying up with me up the grades.

2003 Tahoe 5.3L 4x4 (not Z71). All stock. Driven by heavy footed wife most of the time, tows about 5% of the time, about half city, half highway. At 60k it is getting 14.7 all around average. Gets 10-11 when loaded and towing at 65mph. Gets around 17-18 on the highway at 75mph.

I picked up an 03 Z71 w/50K miles on it last month, came out of an 07 Dodge w/5.9L Diesel. I don't get terrified when going to the gas station any more!

It seems that my particular Tahoe sat most of the time, especially with the mileage and condition. I'm getting 13.5 - 14 and I drive about 80% highway @ 70-80 MPH. My trip to the highway is less than 1 mile in other words.

Hoping that it "breaks in" a little more and starts getting better.

Better get that 8.1 soon, GM has kicked it to the curd due to lack of sales.

My '03 Avalanche would get 15 around town after I put the K&N FIPK on it. The only downside to that is that it's pretty noisy, especially when going up any kind of grade. I would only get ~8 mpg towing my RZ2 at 70-75 with it. When I towed my '04 Rinker 19' I got 10-11 mpg with it.

I don't know how everyone else is getting such good mileage.

My 03, Burb with 100K gets 14.7 with about 2/3 hwy. All highway I can only squeek out 16. Towing with fully loaded (7pass) I get about 8.5.

Bought it new-zero problems. Ready for my next one.
