My first board was totally flat at bottom, but this time I tried to make single concave to slight double concave. It was uneasy. I have to cut stringer then sand foam. At first it was slow then I got more deeper then I wanted and so on. Geometry starts to chaning and I started to be unsure about what I am doing. Then I found some youtube video where they are shaping concave with planer so it helped a bit. Result is not perfect and even but its ok and smooth. Still learning. Now when I look at other boards I can see thing I have no idea before. stringer is masked with thin 3mm Scotch plastic masking tape and board is sealed with microballs

Nice! I love the splatter effect. What are your plans for the veneer? (Message edited by surfdad on September 07, 2009)

Jeff - I just wanted to put some teak wood veneer on top because I like it's texture (but only 14" wide or so)... and becase I like to experiment as much as I can with every new board. I will try to vac-bag it but I'm not sure if it's better to put some light glass under it to glue it directly on foam? J.L., James - Oh thanx, I'm glad YOU like it! Jim - You are right. I think I will try to put some vinil tape aroud. dtw. - Yep very small room aroud. So now is your turn, go and buy some foam you can play with Scott - Ok I will send you my template so you can enjoy all that foam fun with us

I'm not sure how you guys are building these boards, but doesn't this one still need to be glassed? Or is it a foam-top? What else needs to be done before you can ride it and won't a regular foam-top just break right away?

Calix - if you search older Surfdad's threads in archive you will find nearly all you need and even more. Surfdad is our shaping guru. Also look at youtube, there are tons of surboard shaping, glassing, glosscoating, sanding, fin instalation, airbrushing videos. My first board - hotwiring etc. http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/559019/613683.html?1219436311 http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/559019/620714.html?1220578686 I also use some info about shaping from http://www.greenlightsurfboards.com/ watch that DIY timelapse video shaping tips http://www.greenlightsurfsupply.com/shaping_tips.html pdf instructional templates http://www.greenlightsurfsupply.com/templates.html download shaping stand, glassing stand, boxyrailbands, kniefyrailbands pdf BOARD BUILDING TIPS from Foamez http://www.foamez.com/page_4.html Epoxy Board Building Guide pdf - EPS shaping, sealing, laminating (very helful) + all fin instaltion manuals http://www.foamez.com/page_2.html (Message edited by hawaj on September 09, 2009)

Robert - you are right, this is just painted sealed final shape from EPS. Not foam top. Next will be instalation of finboxes, glassing, glosscating and sanding - after all that small itchy, sticky, dusty mess I can go for ride Only hope I dont glue my pants to my ass like Surfdad

Looks good Petr, I like the veneer look. Some balsa or mahogany and maybe some walnut would look cool as hell also. Hmmm ideas?

Wow, that sucks. At least you're working on it again.
I must say, this thread, along with your 1st build thread were great sources of information and inspiration for my build, so it'll be great to see this board get finished.

yea its freaky gloss finish ... heh why not, just for fun
And because it works great with wood, otherwise I will ended with regular matt finish. I really enjoy waterdrops runing zigzag over my teak veneer when I surf
