i am looking a getting a sub for our boat and my first question is everytime i see a sub like installed somewhere its like turned backwards why is that? and then i have a question about the RMS watts. is that like what you should power it with or ive heard that is like the efficiency of the speaker? then i have some like poll type things.

what would you say the medium to high end sensitivity dbs:

this ones about amps.
are fans good:
what is a crossover

sorry im stupid just got interested in them after listening to one of my friends.

There are no stupid q's...

Most of us point the sub toward the boat occupants, since subs are very often in the front of the boat this means they point backwards.

Fans are just another means to cool amplifiers required to keep the electronics within thier operating temperature range.

A crossover seperate the high frequencies from the low frequencies so you can send them to thier respective speakers. Crossovers are also called filters, chokes, coils, caps.

Two 2 ohm subs, hook one to each channel, cross them over somewhere between 100-200hz, whatever sounds best to you in that range.

John - Sensitivity is the efficiency of the speaker, the higher the db the more efficient it is. A 90 db speaker will req roughly 2x the power to play as loud as a 92db speaker. RMS is the true way to gauge power output. A speaker rated @ 100rms will play best when attached to an amp rated for >100 rms power

depoint,

I'm too lazy to post all the possible combinations, send me your speaker/amp specs and I'll make a recommendation.
