What engine has it got? If its the Indmar with the throttle body injection system you will find that its prob time to replace the 2 injectors or else you will start bull-washing the bores which = engine rebuild.

yea its the indmar, how much does the injectors usually run? it does blow some black smoke sometimes when you first start it. is there any other way to tell if it is running rich?

it will be using more fuel than usual. pull a plug and see if the tip is black and smells like fuel. a normal burning plug will be grayish and dry.

I know its an Indmar but what model as they sell different specifications, also why do you think its running rich? is it because of the fuel consumption, black smoke (do you watch the oil level?) or some other reason.

It means that if you look in the cylinders there are big stacks of money in there

Nah seriously it means that the air to fuel ratio is off. Rich means is is putting more fuel than it should in the cylinders and if it were running lean it would not have enough fuel to air.

You want the engine to run a little rich to be safe. That is much better than running lean (knocking). Assuming your engine is not carberated, the ECU will control timing and everything should not need adjustment. You (or somebody) with a laptop and an OBD II cable can plug into the OBD II port and do some logging under load to see if the engine is running rich.

Edit: Hi Ian, What does bull-washing mean? I've never heard the term.
