I have been having some issues trying to get my shaft paking set to the correct drip rate. Basically, I set the drip and tighten everything up and then within a few minutes of driving around it is back to no drips at all. Also, in order to get any drip at all I have to back the packing nut way off where it is almost a stream coming through and then when I tighten up the lock nut it acts like a seal and slows it way down to a really slow drip. I just repacked the bushing with gortex packing thinking that would solve the problem but it still does the same thing. Any ideas?

it does not have to drip, it is normal that it drips some but its not necessary, your new gortex packing is working perfectly...no drip is just fine.

Chris it's nice to see somebody is dealing with the same thing that I did. Andy is right. I adjusted and played and backed on and off the nut and felt the temp, counted drips. Yea I did this for a solid week on and off at Don Pedro. I heard the stuffing box should be cool after running. Well I finally adjusted mine to where I can never see it leak but the stuffing box is slightly warm to the touch. It appears to be fine at that adjustment. Yep my left knee was missing skin I adjusted it so much! Adjusting it was way worse then the actual replacing of it. Man I thought I was the only one to go through that. Good luck.

Yeah, the gortex virtually dripless packing wont drip much at all. You should get no drips at all when the boat is stopped. While moving, you might get a couple drips a minute, but hardly much at all. As it was already stated, as long as youre not burning the packing up after a run, youll be ok.
